Warzone Caldera To Shut Down

The original Warzone, which became Warzone Caldera, is shutting down, Activision has revealed.
Warzone Caldera To Shut Down

With the launch of Warzone 2, the original Warzone received a rebrand under the banner of Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera. While this iteration was meant to serve as an alternative option for those who still wished to play the original Warzone, only the Caldera map was available to play and only in Battle Royale Solos and Quads.

The shift to Warzone Caldera happened on November 28, 2022. Now, as of June 22, Activision has announced that Warzone Caldera will be shutting down for good. The news follows Activision's decision to rebrand Warzone 2 to simply Warzone, with the primary focus for Call of Duty's Battle Royale experience now shifting fully to the newer title.

In a statement, posted to the Call of Duty blog, Activision said, "As of September 21, 2023, Call of Duty®: Warzone™ Caldera will shut down, as our teams focus on future Call of Duty content including the current Warzone free-to-play experience."

The blog post goes on to reassure fans that the end of Warzone Caldera will have no no impact on current Warzone 2 gameplay. This includes inventory and player progression on Al Mazrah or the other available maps.

Warzone Caldera Shutting Down: What Happens To All My Content?

With the news that Warzone Caldera will be ceasing service, players might be wondering what this means for all of their original Warzone items and content. Activision has confirmed that any content purchased in Warzone Caldera will remain accessible across Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard. The content will not be available in Warzone 2 instead.

Thank you to the Call of Duty community and to our developers for making Call of Duty: Warzone an amazing place to play together.

The move seems to incentivise players to move across to Warzone 2, or Warzone as it's onw known. The Battle Royale sequel has just entered its fourth season, alongside MW2. Players can expect more content to make its way to Warzone 2, which Activision seems committed to improving for the foreseeable future.

Warzone Caldera will shut down on September 21, 2023. Players will no longer be sble to access the Battle Royale after this date.
