American developer Singularity 6 has reportedly laid off more employees in this latest round of layoffs since April 2024. According to reports, this is the third time the studio has had to cut back staff after 49 people were let go from their positions in April 2024 and a smaller number in September 2023.

According to a statement supplied by Polygon senior reporter Nicole Carpenter, the developer reduced its team by letting go of 36 staffers in the latest round of layoffs. This recent workforce reduction leaves the cozy MMO's future bleak and uncertain after the developer outlined a roadmap in March 2024.

Since September 2023, Singularity 6 has seen three rounds of layoffs, during which an unconfirmed number of staff were released from their positions. Last month, we reported the second round, which saw a significant number of jobs cut at the developer just days after its Steam launch and 0.178 patch update.

In a statement shared by Carpenter in April 2024, the studio stated that the decision came as they "evaluated the support needed to deliver the highest-quality gameplay service for long-term stability." While the decision won't be taken lightly, it was a "difficult decision to reduce our workforce" following "consideration of our development and business needs to support Palia and its community."

Following the latest round of layoffs, the developer said that they "had to restructure and reduce the size" of the development team as they continue supporting the game and the community. "We thank our departing team for all their work; we are committed to providing the best assistance and transition we can."

"We hope the industry will provide homes for these talented colleagues," the statement concludes. This news comes in the wake of layoffs impacting Sony Interactive Entertainment, Microsoft closing down studios under Bethesda, and Phoenix Labs recently announcing layoffs and canceling a handful of projects.
