Having experienced the V Rising "Connection Timed Out" error, I understand how frustrating this issue might be—especially when your base is under siege (or your allies desperately need your help with a V Boss). The good news is that there is a solution!

This guide will detail exactly how to fix the "Connection Timed Out" error in V Rising, offering several possible solutions and troubleshooting tips.

How To Fix V Rising Connection Timed Out Error: Solution

It's important to note that the "Connection Timed Out" error in V Rising is quite common. It usually describes an issue with your game client's inability to connect with the server properly. That said, there are dozens of possible reasons why your connection is failing.

In my case, I would be able to connect to the game server but then immediately experience massive lag that would even affect my other connections (e.g., my Discord connection dropped). Then, I'd get the error message "V Rising Connection Timed Out," crashing my entire game.

Besides the more "obvious" connection timed-out solutions I've mentioned below, the root of my issue seemed to be linked to my V Rising Dedicated Server. In particular, the game server files were not up-to-date, and a simple Steam update was sufficient to resolve my troubles immediately.

However, a friend of mine had a similar issue, which he later identified was linked to his subscription to the Beta Client Program. In both scenarios described above, the V Rising Connection Timed Out error was due to a mismatch between client and server update versions.

V Rising Connection Timed Out Solutions

Having said that, the V Rising Connection Timed Out issue is multifaceted and could be linked to a variety of topics. I've attempted to list as many solutions below:

  1. Update the Game: Ensure you have the latest version of V Rising installed. Check for any available updates in your game client.
  2. Check port forwarding rules: Ensure that the necessary ports for V Rising are open on your router. I've already written a detailed guide on how to port forward, which you can check out for more information. While you're at it, check your Windows Defender Firewall settings if you haven't mistakenly blocked the V Rising ports.
  3. Check your Internet connection: Ensure that your Internet connection is fast and stable. This tip is a bit obvious, but you won't be able to connect to the V Rising servers if your connection is dropping (or slow). You can close programs that you aren't using to reduce network traffic. Restarting your router might also help.
  4. Check if the game server is overloaded: V Rising servers have a player cap of 40 (by default(. If you're trying to join a server that's already full, you'll encounter the V Rising Connection Timed Out error. Try joining a server in a different region with less traffic or wait for the server to clear up.
  5. Check the game's server status: Keep an eye on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of V Rising (@VRisingGame) for updates on server outages or issues.
  6. Verify game files: You can verify the integrity of game files through your game launcher (e.g., Steam). This process ensures that all game files are installed correctly and can help resolve issues.
  7. Restart your device and Steam: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Try restarting your device and Steam to see if that fixes the problem. The issue might resolve itself this way (in typical Microsoft Windows fashion).
  8. Direct connection to private server: If you're trying to connect to a private server, ensure that the server is online and that you're using the correct direct IP address and port. You can also try joining via your Steam friend list—this worked for one of my friends.
  9. Use a VPN: Some users have reported success in resolving the V Rising Connection Timed Out issue by using a VPN. This can help bypass any network restrictions or routing issues. Alternatively, use a different internet connection altogether (like your mobile data) to rule out if your router is potentially the problem!

And that's all! In reality, there might be hundreds of reasons why you're having this issue. But the solutions I've listed appear to be effective in most cases. Hopefully, you'll identify the source of your problem. If the fix isn't listed here, please drop me a message at chad.kemp@ginx.tv with your solution so I can add it here for other readers!
