How To Breathe Underwater In Grounded

To explore the underwater depths in Grounded, you'll need to know how to breathe underwater.

A portion of Grounded will take players underwater, such as when locating the Pond Lab. By default, you'll have roughly 40 seconds of oxygen when exploring under water, but that's nowhere near enough to achieve results. Thankfully, there are a few ways to increase your available oxygen and breath underwater for longer.

How To Increase Oxygen Capacity & Breathe Underwater In Grounded

Like most aspects of Grounded, to increase your survivability, you'll need to harvest specific materials and craft them into useful items. This is equally true when it comes to increasing your oxygen capacity, allowing you to breathe underwater for longer.

There are a few items you should get acquainted with for this task:

  • Gill Tube
  • Liquid Gills

To craft the Gill Tube, you'll need the following materials:

  • Lilypad Wax x 2
  • Eelgrass Strand x 4
  • Silk Rope x 2

The Gill Tube allows you to breathe underwater for longer, giving the 'Junior Diver' perk while equipped. You'll need to craft this item at a Workbench. Lilypad Wax can be found underneath Lilypad leaves in the water. Eelgrass Strands can also be found in water biomes. If you haven't unlocked the Gill Tube blueprint yet, be sure to analyze the above materials at a Science station.

To craft Liquid Gills, you'll need the following materials, plus a Smoothie Station:

  • Water Flea Meat x 1
  • Eelgrass Strand x 1
  • Raw Tadpole Meat x 1

Liquid Gills is a consumable item, which is why it requires fewer resources than the Gill Tube. Making use of both items while on your dive will give you the best result. Water Flea Meat can be harvested from Water Fleas, which are typically found in shallow water, such as the pool towards the Hedge biome. Tadpoles can be found in the pond.  If you haven't unlocked the Liquid Gills blueprint yet, be sure to analyze the above materials at a Science station.
