NetEase Games and Marvel Games announced their latest collaboration, the superhero team-based PVP shooter Marvel Rivals, with an Announce Trailer on 27th March 2024. Before its official announcement, there had been rumors of the game being an Overwatch clone, which inherently was confirmed, but with some major differences that set it apart from Blizzard's team-based multiplayer FPS game.

As it stands, the game is only confirmed for PC via Epic Games Store and Steam, with a planned Closed Alpha Test coming to PC in May. Many interested players were anticipating confirmation of a potential console port for PlayStation and Xbox; however, according to a new report, this may be plausible.

Following Marvel Rivals' announcement, new reports, including a potential console port, have surfaced online. Miller Ross on Twitter reports that he has been told that "Marvel Rivals is coming to consoles," as this was supposed to be announced alongside the game's official announcement.

He added that this was "confirmed" to him "by multiple people" before he followed it up with two screenshots for a side-by-side comparison of the game's potential console port being removed from the game's FAQ. While understandably, a console port for Marvel Rivals is likely possible, a possible reason why mentions of the game's console plans were removed was summed up in response to Ross' tweet.

According to one observant Twitter user, they guessed that mentions of Marvel Rivals for consoles were pulled due to how game testing is much easier to establish on PCs than on consoles. They continued stating that "since there's no certification for updates," it may be why NetEase mentions of a console port were removed for the time being until an Open Beta has been confirmed for an announcement to be made.

Interested players wishing to participate in the Closed Alpha Test for Marvel Rivals can now register on the official website and view the current PC requirements. The Closed Alpha Test will begin on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in May, with more details to follow.
