When it comes to the flying creatures in ARK Survival Ascended, there are numerous options, but the Quetzal stands out as one of the most valuable due to its large size and its ability to serve as a flying base. Knowing how to tame a Quetzal, especially as a solo player, is incredibly beneficial.

Fortunately, there's a useful trick that players can employ to easily trap and tame a Quetzal, and this guide will walk you through exactly how to execute it. Continue reading to discover the steps for trapping and taming a Quetzal as a solo player in ARK Survival Ascended.

How To Trap and Tame a Quetzal Solo in ARK Survival Ascended

On the surface, taming a Quetzal solo is pretty much the same as it would be for any other creature: force it to land, knock it out, place their desired food in the inventory, and wait for the taming bar to fill up until the Quetzal is yours. However, due to the creature's size and propensity to take off or attack whenever approached, it's not as easy to do, especially for a solo player.

Thankfully, we have a great tip that can help you streamline the first two steps of the process: forcing it to land and knocking it out. This process will require some dino gates, as well as Honey, so make sure you check out our Giant Bee taming guide to get your hands on as much Honey as you can.

Now for the strategy; first, you'll want to find the Quetzal, which can usually be found roaming in all areas of the map, but they are rare, so just keep your eyes peeled for them. Once found, you'll want to fly towards them using a flying Tame of your choosing and stock up your hotbar with the Giant Bee honey, and as soon as you're close to it, toss one of the Giant Bee honey out mid-air.

As the Honey falls, the Quetzal will follow it to the ground, and it's here where you'll trap it. Once it's grounded, you'll want to use a giant dino gate and place it down over the Quetzal's neck and body, effectively trapping it while it's distracted by the Honey. Once trapped, it will not be able to move, and you're all clear to use any tranquilizers of your choice to knock it out and tame it.

This results in a fast and easy way that even a solo player can pull off to capture and tame a Quetzal, and its ability to travel with large amounts of gear, and even have a small platform rest on its back acting as a "mobile base" makes the Quetzal a must-have for any group or solo survivor reaching the mid-end game. One last thing to note, however, is that the honey strategy will attract not just the Quetzal but any other creature nearby, so to avoid a Rex ruining your strategy, make sure to clear out the area first.
