Vitality Sent to Lower Bracket After B8’s EWC 2026 Upset

Dramatic esports arena scene representing B8's CS2 upset over Vitality at EWC 2026

B8 pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the Esports World Cup 2026 CS2 competition, beating tournament favourites Vitality 2-1 to lock in a playoff spot and knock the French superteam into the lower bracket.

The Ukrainian side dropped the opener on Mirage before firing back to take Inferno, setting up a decider that nobody saw coming. Dust2 turned into a one-sided finish, with Vitality unable to get anything going as B8 closed the series out in style, according to Sport.ua.

How B8 Turned the Series Around

B8 capitalised on individual mistakes from Vitality and effectively read the actions of Dan “apEX” Madesclaire throughout the series, according to the report. After losing Mirage, B8 answered with a comeback on Inferno before taking control of the deciding map.

It’s the second major setback of the season for Vitality, who also crashed out of the top eight at the Cologne Major after a loss to Liquid. Falling to B8 here means another must-win stretch for the French org, who’ll now have to fight through the lower bracket to keep their EWC 2026 dreams alive.

What’s Next for Both Sides

B8 head straight into the playoffs off the back of the win, a huge result for a roster that just knocked out one of the tournament’s headline names. Vitality, meanwhile, face a knockout-or-bust lower bracket run if they want to salvage their EWC 2026 campaign.
