Blue Protocol is an upcoming free-to-play anime-style MMO RPG from Bandai Namco and Amazon Games. Following in the footsteps of other successful free-to-play titles like Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy, it's quite evident who Blue Protocol's target audience is.
However, Bandai Namco and Amazon Games (who also published Lost Ark and New World in the west) have provided several incentives to believe that Blue Protocol is a vastly different experience than many of its competitors. While it's still too early to comment on what kind of a game Blue Protocol would turn out to be, here's everything players need to know about this upcoming action RPG before it arrives later this year.
Update on 14 March 2023: We've updated this article with the latest Blue Protocol news, details and more.
Blue Protocol Story
Blue Protocol takes place on the fantastical land of Regnas that's on the brink of destruction. The player character (customizable) goes on a journey alongside other characters to discover their origin and, in the process, determine the fate of the Regnas.
Blue Protocol Gameplay & Classes
Blue Protocol features a fast-paced real-time combat system that's very reminiscent of the combat in games like Genshin Impact and Tales of Arise.
At launch, Blue Protocol features five distinct classes. They are:
- Blade Warden (high DPS, melee)
- Foe Breaker (slow DPS, melee)
- Twin Striker (high DPS, melee duel-wield)
- Spell Weaver (mage)
- Keen Strider (ranged)
Blue Protocol Release Date Window & Platforms
Blue Protocol will release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. According to Famitsu, the PC version of the game will release in the spring of 2023, whereas the console versions will release a bit later in the year.
Blue Protocol Closed Beta
While Blue Protocol received several closed beta last year in Japan, the rest of the world has yet to try the game for themselves. Thankfully, Bandai Namco has revealed plans for a global closed beta for Blue Protocol in 2023. While more concrete details remain a mystery, players can sign up for the same on Blue Protocol's official website.
Does Blue Protocol Feature Gacha Mechanics?
While Blue Protocol is a free-to-play title, Bandai Namco has confirmed that it won't feature pay-to-win Gacha mechanics like Genshin Impact. However, there will be microtransactions though they will strictly be cosmetic. Players can purchase these items with Rose Orbs, the game's currency.
Blue Protocol will also feature a free and premium season pass though not much is known about this as of this writing.
And that's pretty much it. That's everything you need to know about Blue Protocol. We will continue to update this article as more info about this upcoming MMO RPG is made available.
