The next instalment in one of the most storied franchises in gaming is just around the corner. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sees the franchise return to a more realistic and modern setting along with classic, yet innovative movement mechanics.
After a largely successful open beta in September, the majority of the community spoke highly of the latest entry from Infinity Ward, developers of the critically acclaimed Call of Duty 4. With Call of Duty returning to a modern environment, the weapon arsenal introduces some new additions along with some familiar weaponry from previous titles. Here are the confirmed weapons for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releasing on October 25th.
Providing players with a weapon for any possible engagement, the Assault Rifles feature weaponry synonymous with the Modern Warfare franchise along with some new additions that offer players a wide variety of firepower when entering the battlefield.
- FR 5.56 (Famas)
- Kilo 141
- FN Scar 17s
For the more aggressive players, there are numerous SMGs that excel in close-quarters engagements. With some skill (and patience) it is possible to outgun an AR at range with an SMG which is very rewarding. With a fast rate of fire and minimal recoil, SMGs are ideal for players that prefer to navigate the map quickly as opposed to those that prefer a more passive style.
- PP19 Bizon
Often placed in the secondary weapon category, shotguns are now in the primary weapon choice, offering players unmatched levels of damage in when in close proximity to the opposition. With pump-action, semi-and fully automatic options, shotguns are a great counter to sub-machine gunners.
- Model 680
- R9-0 Shotgun
- Origin 12 Shotgun
Light Machine Guns
For the more passive players, an LMG allows players to post up in a specific position and reign down heavy and persistent fire on the enemy. The higher levels of damage do come at a cost however. With a long reload time and very limited mobility, LMG players can be hindered but when overlooking a particular area, it’s hard to find any better weapon for the job.
Considered as a compromise between an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, marksman rifles are semi-automatic making them deadly for anyone that has a strong trigger finger. With all the weapons boasting high damage outputs, they can be extremely versatile when in the right hands.
- EBR 14
- MK2 Carbine
Whether rushing around the map performing outrageous quick-scopes on the opposition or sat patiently at the back of the map picking people off one by one, the sniper rifles on Modern Warfare feel extremely rewarding when securing the kill yet very punishing when missing.
As Gaz, trusty sidekick of the enigmatic Captian Price once said, “switching to your pistol is faster than reloading.” A strong secondary weapon in the back pocket can often be the difference between staying alive and falling at the hands of the enemy. Modern Warfare contains a wide variety of pistols all offering different qualities. Go all guns blazing with a Desert Eagle or perhaps a more precise approach with the 1911.
- .50 GS (Desert Eagle)
With the return of killstreaks and a lack of traditional mini-map on Modern Warfare, UAVs and Counter UAVs hold more value than ever. Equipping a launcher to destroy enemy killstreaks is a fast way to earn experience and even take down a large group of enemies when used correctly.
As the release of the game draws nearer, players will get their hands on the full weapon arsenal when the game releases on Oct. 25th.
