Dark and Darker could be set to remove one of its most popular modes as part of a future update.

In a statement to players on the game's official Discord server, an Ironmace developer – known as SDF – gave players something of an unofficial roadmap of what players can expect for the near future.

Among various updates that the team plan to add to the game, including tweaks to existing classes and bosses within the game, SDF also announced that the was planning to do away with it's duo queue, writing:

"We are also working on various systems. Squire will be added as a new Merchant and will greatly improve the convenience for players to access Normal games. Additionally, an adventurer rank system for Normal will be introduced. We are considering having Goblin Merchants offer a Dungeon Recoveries service, which will provide the opportunity to retrieve some of the items lost in the dungeon. Additionally, an Expressman will be added to safely deliver dungeon items. And if the above system works as planned, we will introduce random matchmaking. Along with that, the Duo queue will be removed and Solo/Trio will be available for all maps."

Although SDF was careful to acknowledge that these plans may change depending on test results, it hasn't stopped a swift outcry from fans who don't want to see the duo queue removed from the game.

We suspect that Ironmace plans to remove the Duo queue around the time of the next wipe, which should be taking place in mid-March. Thankfully, it means the devs have plenty of time to reconsider, not least after the backlash that the decision appears to be gaining online.
