Dead by Daylight's killer The Clown has been Kill Switched, or deactivated, by developers temporarily for fixes. Here's what's going on.
Dead by Daylight Temporarily Disables The Clown Due To Glitch

Dead by Daylight is one of the most popular 4v1 multiplayer horror games of all time, but even the best of the best games still run into issues sometimes. The Clown was temporarily deactivated, or Kill Switched, due to a glitch with his movement speed in July 2022.

Here's everything you need to know about The Clown's deactivation, including why it happened and when the killer may be playable again.

The Clown was Kill Switched on 25th July 2022 after players pointed out that the killer was moving faster than intended. One of his bottles caused a "permanent haste effect," allowing him to catch up to survivors and earn hits quickly.

The Clown is not the first killer to be deactivated with the new Kill Switch feature. In May 2022, The Nurse was deactivated for over a month as developers fixed issues with her power.

Developers haven't announced when The Clown will return to the game, so it's up in the air as to how long he will be deactivated. The Nurse was Kill Switched for over a month, so it could take just as long to fix issues with The Clown. On the other hand, though, it could be just a few days; fans will have to wait and see.

Matchmaking incentives are also currently Kill Switched, as players were not receiving any bonus Bloodpoints with the new feature.

What Is A Kill Switch In Dead By Daylight?

In Dead by Daylight, the Kill Switch feature allows developers to temporarily disable any cosmetics, characters, maps, perks, add-ons, or other features that may be causing issues in the game.

This way, developers can fix the issue behind the scenes before re-enabling the problematic features. For updates on Kill Switches, as well as a full master list of all current Kill Switches in Dead by Daylight, check out Behaviour's Kill Switch Master List.
