Dead By Daylight Movie Still Looking For Director And Screenwriter

The Dead by Daylight movie still isn't in production as of February 2024, as Blumhouse is still actively looking for a screenwriter and director for the film, according to the company's founder, Jason Blum, in a recently-published interview.

The movie was announced back in early 2023, with Behaviour Interactive announcing that they would bring The Fog to the big screen while partnering with Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, the studio that created box office hit Five Nights at Freddy's. Five Nights at Freddy's had not yet been released when the three studios announced their partnership, but after its widespread success, there are even more eyes on the upcoming Dead by Daylight Movie than ever.

In a 2023 March statement, Blum wrote, "We know there are so many fans of ‘Dead by Daylight’ out there and think it’s imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen. We know our partners at Behaviour and Atomic Monster will help us bring the best version of this game to life.” 

While the movie still lacks a decided producer or screenwriter, there are already a few backstage cast roles in place. The game's producers include Blum himself, James Wan, and Stephen Mulrooney. Executive Producers are Rémi Racine from Behaviour, Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Judson Scott, Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek, and Russell Binder with Striker Entertainment.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting a release date for the DBD Movie for a while now, but it seems like it'll be a minute before that comes considering that the movie doesn't even have a director or screenwriter yet. While the Dead by Daylight Movie is no doubt one of Behaviour's most exciting DBD-related projects right now, they've also recently announced an upcoming game that will delve into Dead by Daylight's lore: The Casting of Frank Stone. That's not to mention the other upcoming Supermassive Games title announced last May.

Dead by Daylight fans have a lot of new content to look forward to this year, and it's likely we'll hear more about the movie when it begins production. We're hoping for a 2025 release date, but anything could happen!
