Fans have been waiting more than a decade for the Budokai Tenkaichi series to return, and the eventual Dragon Ball Sparking Zero release date will bring a sequel to a franchise that skipped two whole console generations. As new details begin to emerge, it's looking like the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero roster will be among the most extensive in franchise history.

With the first trailers and confirmed characters now available, it won't shock many that Goku and Vegeta will be center stage. From our release date prediction to the unconfirmed characters teased in early footage, here's everything we know so far about Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Update March 20: New characters have been revealed in the latest Power vs Speed trailer showcasing more Dragon Ball Sparking Zero gameplay. You can find the full list below.

So far, Bandai Namco has stopped short of confirming an upcoming Dragon Ball Sparking Zero release date. The initial trailer reveal simply told fans to "Wishlist Now," and early listings for the game are using placeholder dates with December 31, 2024 listed. We don't expect that date is accurate, but it could clue us into when the game may arrive.

Looking back to the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series released from 2005 to 2007, all three installments had an October release date. On top of that, it's important to note that Dragon Ball DAIMA, an all-new canon anime, is scheduled for a "Fall 2024" release.

With all of that in mind, we do expect the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero release date will be October 2024. The other most likely timing would be January 2025, as Dragon Ball FighterZ and the Dragon Ball adjacent Bandai Namco title Jump Force were both January releases.

Early trailers have already confirmed the gameplay will align with what was seen in previous Budokai Tenkaichi games with mobile 3D combat and destructible environments. For recent players, this should mean something closer to Dragon Ball Z Kakarot and the Xenoverse series rather than a side-scrolling fighting game like Dragon Ball FighterZ. Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is confirmed to be releasing exclusively on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

In addition to the announced forms above, the following characters have been shown in trailers. Details on exact form names and what other versions of them we might see haven't been confirmed, but these fighters will be on the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero roster:
