Fortnite removes critical Building feature in new season update
According to Epic Games' loading screen, "Building has been wiped out. It's up to the Resistance to get it back. Jump in with your squad and help The Seven uncover the Imagined Orders nefarious plan."
With the Building mechanic removed, players must maintain cover using a new defence called the Overshield.

"You now have an Overshield on top of your Shield and Health. The Overshield is your first line of defence: before your Shield and Health take a hit, it's your Overshield that'll crack. Your Overshield will still recover if it goes all the way down to 0," the patch notes read.
If you're wondering if this change will affect competitive lobbies, then don't worry, it won't. Epic Games confirmed that Building is unaffected in competitive or Arena playlists and Team Rumble and Creative Islands.
It should be noted that the removal of Building in Fortnite was not entirely unsurprising. Epic Games teased the change in the Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 Resistance's story trailer, although the hint was incredibly subtle.
In particular, the trailer depicted Doctor Sloane detonating a device that destroyed all the buildings in the area. Indeed, this fueled fan speculation that Building would be removed from Fortnite. We've embedded the trailer below so you can see for yourself.

While it's unclear how long Buildings will be disabled, prominent leaker Hypex suggests that the mechanic will only be removed for a week. Notably, not all players are chuffed with the change, citing that Building is a unique feature that allows Fortnite to stand out from other battle royales.
Ew wtf. This is Fortnite not apex or warzone 💀 I’ll pass on this week lol— arkheops ✨ (@itsarkheops) March 20, 2022
Others, however, welcome the change, citing that it will add a new twist to the game. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about the feature change. Let me know by sharing your opinion with me on Twitter.
