How Long is God of War Ragnarok? Story Length & Full Completion

Ragnarök is coming, and don't expect Kratos to engrave a sick note for you on 9th November 2022. You will need to schedule quite a bit of dedicated gaming time to complete God of War Ragnarok's story, and completionists need even more game time on their PlayStations this November.

If you are wondering how long it would take to beat God of War Ragnarok's story and how long it could take you to see everything, then we've got you covered.

Update on 21 November 2022: We've updated this article to reflect the latest information about the God of War Ragnarok time to beat.

How Long To Complete God of War Ragnarok's Story

God of War Ragnarok finishes up the Norse saga of the series and is set to be the biggest title in the franchise. The story revolves around Kratos and Arteus, the latter wants to uncover what the prophecy of Loki means, and the former struggles to become a better father.

As the inhabitants of Asgard watch the duo's every move, players will have to complete environmental puzzles, fight mystical enemies, endure massive boss fights and explore "vast realms".

So how long would it take you to beat God of War Ragnarok's story for the first time? Well, it depends on a player's skill and how much time they spend exploring the world.

According to a report by the reputable Tom Henderson via Industry Insider, it should take around 20 to 25 hours to complete God of War Ragnarok's story. This includes three and a half hours of cinematic scenes and around 16 and a half hours of gameplay minimum.

This puts God of War Ragnarok in roughly the same story completion time as the 2018 title. However, we suggest taking this information with a grain of salt until reviews come out and players across the globe log their completion times.

God of War Ragnarok 100% Completion Time

According to Tom Henderson, the "entire experience" will take about 40 hours on average.

This lines up with what God of War's David Jaffe said back in September 2021, when he talked about the game's length: "I’m hearing from people in the know that that game is 40 hours. They’re aiming for 40 hours of gameplay. I don’t know if that’s a 100% Platinum Trophy completion or if that’s average playtime. Is it guaranteed? No. Things get cut, and things get added. But what I can tell you right now – 40 hours of gameplay is what they’re shooting for the new God of War."

There are a lot of side quests to complete and exploration to be done in God of War Ragnarok.

As a little tease, Tim Turi, the Content Community Manager for SIE, explained: "Fans who adore turning over every stone in the realm can rest assured that exploration is abundant and rewarded in this sequel. While venturing through a charming yet uninviting dwarven town, Kratos and Atreus cross paths with a dwarf who has history with Mimir.

The dwarf mentions mining rigs that Mimir once championed have caused a mess in these lands. If players choose to pursue this Favor, they can correct Mimir’s past wrongs for a reward. Later, while navigating a canoe across a vast, brilliant blue lake I spot pillars of black smoke billowing from these mines. I chose to forge ahead on the main quest path but was reassured when Atreus organically mentioned we could return to complete the Favor later."

Remember that the 40 hours of gameplay time in God of War Ragnarok could be more or less. It does depend on how long players take to solve puzzles or how challenging they find certain fights. Further, it is not necessarily how long it would take to get the Platinum trophy.

We will endeavor to update this article once more information about the God of War Ragnarok story length and time to fully complete becomes available. Speaking of the game's story, check out an official trailer below to give you a better idea of what Kratos and Arteus are up to.
