NACON has just launched an exciting new gameplay trailer for Hell is Us, their upcoming title built with Unreal Engine 5. No doubt fans of both Death Stranding and Dark Souls will no doubt find something to admire in the action-adventure developed by Rogue Factor.
Set in a semi-open world torn apart by civil war, Hell is Us follows a protagonist navigating a land plagued by a mysterious calamity that has unleashed supernatural creatures beyond the reach of modern weaponry. Armed with a sword from a bygone era and accompanied by a trusty drone, players must carve a path through terrifying chimeras while unraveling the secrets behind their existence and the calamity that has reshaped the region.
One of the standout features highlighted by the developers is the absence of a traditional map, compass, or quest markers; which is somewhat refreshing. Players will need to rely on their instincts to navigate the world. According to the devs, this approach will deliver a unique gameplay experience which emphasises innovative storytelling and level design, hopefully leading to a lot more personal exploration.
Visually, Hell is Us looks like it shares a lot of similarities with Death Stranding (at least aesthetically), but the actual gameplay looks to be leaning more on the side of Dark Souls.
The game was originally scheduled for a 2023 release, but Hell is Us is now expected to debut at some stage in 2025.
