Madden 24 Title Update 1.02 temporarily breaks servers and offers minimal fixes

Madden 24 Update 1.02 deployed across all platforms, but it did little more than nuke the servers and offer minor fixes.
Madden 24 Title Update 1.02 temporarily breaks servers and offers minimal fixes

We're now about a week out from the arrival of Madden 24, and this year's launch has been plagued by slow user interface issues and bugs. This isn't exactly a change from the average Madden launch in recent years, but Madden 24 Update 1.02 offered the first glimpse of hope to players.

While still the first Madden 24 Title Update, this relatively minimal release only had a few minor bug fixes and instead caused more issues than it resolved. While the servers seem to have leveled back out to a sense of normalcy by now, Madden 24 Title Update 1.02 didn't come close bringing the latest release back to a sense of stability.

Madden 24 Update 1.02 Patch Notes

After landing for Early Access back on August 15 and going live worldwide on August 18, it's been a bumpy week for Madden 24. While some new upgrades did bring some fun to the table, our Madden 24 review outlined how lack of improvement in other areas and the deterioration of the UI and menus made this year's release even more frustrating than its predecessor.

Fortunately, the first glimpse of hope has arrived with the deployment and reveal of the Madden 24 Update 1.02 Patch Notes to let fans know exactly what EA Sports has addressed so far. Ahead of the Madden 24 Title Update Patch Notes across all platforms, we first got word via the EA Answers forum addressing issues seen among the PC player community.

EA suggested players try adjusting the frame rate from uncapped to a specific number (60 FPS or 120 FPS) and ensuring the game is running in full screen mode while reiterating that bringing next gen features previously exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S meant that the minimum specs required on PC had changed significantly for Madden 24. They confirmed that "the team is aware and working on addressing menu lag across all areas of Madden NFL 24" and asked players to reply with their specs and issues they were facing.

Shortly thereafter, a title update went live across all platforms. This was Madden 24 Update 1.02 on PS4, 1.002 on PS5, and 1.0.0.6 on Xbox Series X|S. It took a while before any official Madden 24 Patch Notes were revealed, and they've outlined only a few fixes.

Here are the Madden 24 Update 1.02 Patch Notes:

Franchise:

  • Fixed an issue where users were able to re-sign high interest players at very low contract offers.
    • Note: This was affecting offline leagues only
  • Fixed general stability issues

Misc:

  • Various tuning and stability fixes

Sadly, there's no direct mention of the known menu lag and slow user interface problems or the other various glitches that players have been running into across different game modes. There was also no mention of reports that the game is crashing heavily across various platforms. The update rollout instead seemed to crash the servers for many players in the hours after being deployed, but those problems appear to have been remedied by now.

Madden 24 Title Update likely less than two weeks away

While EA stopped short on giving an exact date, there is potentially good news when it comes to the next Madden 24 Update. In the patch notes for this bundle of hotfixes, they stated the following:

Our team continues to monitor your feedback across all modes. More updates and improvements are coming to Madden NFL 24 near the start of the NFL Season. We will be back with a full Gridiron Notes to detail those updates.

While they stopped short of giving an exact release date for what will be the first substantial Madden 24 Title Update, the promise of one "near the start of the NFL season" means players shouldn't have to wait much longer. The regular season kicks off on Thursday, September 7, so players will hopefully see a title update go live and detailed Gridiron Notes outlining fixes in less than two weeks.
