Fortnite Mega Man Cup Offers Free Cosmetics on Sept. 8

Mega Man and Zero-inspired fighters face off in a futuristic Fortnite tournament arena

Epic has finally lifted the curtain on Fortnite’s Mega Man crossover, confirming a themed Mega Man Cup for Tuesday, Sept. 8, that gives players a shot at earning the collab’s cosmetics for free before anything hits the Item Shop. It’s the payoff after weeks of teases running through Chapter 7 Season 4, and Zero from Mega Man X is confirmed to be joining the roster too, according to Polygon.

The Mega Man Cup and Its Free Rewards

The full rules for the Mega Man Cup hadn’t been revealed as of Polygon’s report, but the shape of the rewards is clear enough. Players need to land among the top-rated participants in their region to unlock Mega Man himself for free, with two smaller rewards up for grabs regardless of final placement:

  • A Mega Man emoticon for earning eight points through eliminations and survival time
  • The Override Buster Blast spray for racking up 25 eliminations with the Mega Buster (or five eliminations on mobile)

Anyone hoping for exact match formats or point breakdowns down to the letter will want to wait for Epic’s official rules drop, since those specifics weren’t part of the confirmed details.

Mega Man Skins and Zero Join the Fight

Comparing the Cup’s promotional artwork against earlier trailer footage, Polygon reports it’s likely fans will receive the standard Mega Man skin alongside a Mega Man X alternative style. A video teaser also confirmed Zero, originally from Mega Man X, as the second skin coming out of this collaboration.

As for when Mega Man actually lands in the shop, Polygon notes that skins from Cups like this typically arrive not long after the tournament wraps, putting Mega Man’s Item Shop debut around Wednesday or Thursday. Nothing beyond that window is locked in yet.

Why Mega Man Is Showing Up Now

Fortnite Override, better known as Chapter 7 Season 4, is built around retro games and hacking, which explains why a Mega Man cartridge got slotted into the Override console that spawned after the Unstable Event at the Zero Point. He was one of the first characters teased for the season, but more than two weeks in, he still hadn’t actually shown up in the game, according to Polygon’s reporting.

For players who’ve grabbed cosmetics through similar events like the Crash Bandicoot Cup or the Shadow Cup, the format should feel familiar: play well on Sept. 8, and Mega Man’s roster of cosmetics is yours before anyone else even gets the chance to buy them.

That covers what’s confirmed so far – the Sept. 8 Cup, its free rewards, the expected shop window, and Zero’s arrival alongside Mega Man.
