Nier Reincarnation: Release date, price, gameplay, story, compatible devices, more

With Nier Reincarnation, the popular RPG franchise is coming to mobile devices, and here's everything you should know about the game, including the release date, how much it cost, gameplay, are there in-game purchases, and more.
Nier Reincarnation, the mobile Nier spin-off from the renowned creator, Yoko Taro, will bring the beloved RPG franchise to your mobile device this summer.

Announced in March 2020, Nier Reincarnation is one of several projects revealed as a part of the tenth-anniversary celebration of the Nier series.

Despite being a mobile game, developers promise that it will stay true to the Nier formula, with a "story-heavy" design, and a big focus on the narrative development of characters. The game's story will be strongly connected with the world of Neir, and the stories of the previous two games, but it will be an independent game and players previously unfamiliar with the Nier universe will be able to enjoy the game.

With that in mind, let's check out all the details we know about the game.

When is Nier Reincarnation coming out? Release date revealed

It has been confirmed that the game is officially releasing this summer.

Nier Reincarnation is set to be released on 28th July 2021. If you want to have the game ready for download upfront and even get some rewards, make sure to pre-register for the game on the App Store and Google Play

At the time of writing, over 300,000 people have already pre-registered. Players who pre-register will start the game with some free Gems (the game's currency), and Square Enix has announced that they will increase the number of rewards for every 100,000 more pre-registrations.

Is Nier Reincarnation free?

Yes, the game will be free-to-play and it will be supported with in-game microtransactions. Gacha elements will be a core mechanic of Nier Reincarnation, so expect that you will probably need to spend some money if you will want to fully enjoy the game.

"We tried to do our own thing with the gacha, but thinking about it now, it's a gacha that's pretty much like Puzzle & Dragons,"  explains Yoko Taro, the series' creator.

It remains to be seen how will the gacha style be incorporated into the game, and how will that affect players' wallets.

We currently know very little about the game's story. We know that it will be independent of the stories from the first two games and that it will be set "sometime in the future",  in an area known as "The Cage", full of mysterious towers and dungeons.

The main characters are the Girl of Light, Mama, and the Dark Monster, while numerous other characters can be unlocked through the gacha system, including the Wanderer, the Prosthetic Hunter, the Clockwork Soldier, and the Assassin.

The Girl, guided by Mama, will seek to unlock various memories of the past while avoiding the Dark Monster.

The game consists of three main elements, the exploration of the world, the battle system, which can be described as a JRPG combat system, and the gacha system.

Players can assemble a party with up to three other characters, and characters can use their weapons and special powers in the battle, as well as various items. Battles resolve automatically in real-time once players set up their strategies.

Square Enix hasn't yet revealed the official system specifications in order to run Nier Reincarnation, but we will update the article once this information becomes available.
