A new report has revealed that Apple is planning a significant shift in its gaming strategies to attract more customers to play across its family of devices. The report provided additional information, which detailed that Apple is planning to launch a new gaming-centric app that will become available for all Apple devices, as its launch is to coincide with the global launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.
The report comes after Apple had just acquired their first game development studio, the two-person team at RAC7, which is behind the Apple Arcade smash hit Sneaky Sasquatch, according to another report from Digital Trends. An Apple representative supplied comments stating that they "love Sneaky Sasquatch and are excited that the 2-person RAC7 team has joined Apple to continue their work on it with us" as they move forward to providing users with the best experiences possible with Apple Arcade, with unique gaming titles from the best developers and studios globally.
This latest Apple report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman on 27th May 2025 detailed Apple's plans to launch "a dedicated app for video games," which will be pre-installed across its family of devices. According to the report, the intention behind this decision is to promote to gamers, game developers, and publishers that Apple is "a leader in the market."
This "dedicated app" includes some functionalities that Bloomberg reported, which include a game launcher for games, likely including Apple Arcade releases, features achievements, leaderboards, and other related gaming functions, according to sources closest to the story. Additionally, this new gaming app will feature unique news content directly from Apple, App Store access, promoting the Apple Arcade subscription service, and more, which this app will sadly replace the current Game Center app.
Apple aims to announce this app at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which Bloomberg reports will be on 9th June 2025, and the keynote event can be livestreamed via the Apple website, the Apple TV app, and its YouTube channel. This announcement of the "dedicated app" will coincide with the days after the global launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, whose release is slated for 5th June 2025.
