This does leave the door open as to when players can expect the developers to add mounts in New World, resulting in speculation from the community. Twitch streamer Michael “shroud” Grzesiek believes players will be waiting quite a while for the arrival of mounts in New World.
New World players could wait years for mounts
Shroud firmly expects mounts to arrive in a few years as the game is mainly built around exploration, teleporting, and travelling on foot. However, he believes the game will undergo some drastic changes when mounts are eventually added.
Shroud explains: “They might [add mounts] eventually when they change the game a lot. You know how every MMO goes through that phase where it drastically changes the way it’s played? It happens every time.
"MMOs always start in one way and then they do a huge overhaul and it turns into something else. Once that happens with this game, maybe a couple of years in that’s when you can see mounts. But it’s going to take years."
Last year, New World Game director, Scot Lane commented on whether mounts could be added to the game or is something the team is opposed to. Lane explains that while the addition of mounts to the game will happen in the future, the world isn’t ready for it yet.
“When we do get there with the live game, that’s gonna happen at some point, we’ll add mounts when we feel players will benefit from them and we can do them in a really cool way that works for us.”
While the developers may have not given players an exact timeline for when we can expect to see mounts added to the game, this is confirmation that the developers are considering it. As the year nears its end, it is safe to assume we won't see New World mounts released in 2021.
