Throughout the years of Overwatch, a lot of lore has been given to players through the use of various events. These events gave players a deeper look into what is happening in the game and allow them to better connect with the various characters they are using. At the end of the day though, Overwatch 2 is a multiplayer game.
But even so, fans were still excited about the Story Mode that was supposed to come with Overwatch 2. However, news has revealed that there will be no story mode for Overwatch 2 but instead, there will be paid story missions instead. Here, we will update this page on the latest PVE news for Overwatch 2.

Following the release of the Mid-Season update, Null Sector forces have now been spotted invading various maps in the game.
Just look up on maps like King's Row, New Queen Street, Paraíso and more to spot the Command ships overhead.

In a shocking and disappointing development, the Overwatch 2 Hero Mode, which was the story mode, was announced to be canceled. Although Overwatch 2 will get some PvE content in the future, the Story Mode that everyone was waiting for will never happen.
Hopefully, we'll learn more with the release of the Overwatch 2 Season 4 trailer on April 6.
It seems as though the development team at Blizzard might be getting closer to revealing that PVE story mode we've longed for since Overwatch 2 first launched.
During a recent Twitch stream Executive Producer Jared Neuss was asked about PvE and explained that it's coming "soon".
Now if you're laughing because 'Blizzard Soon' isn't actually that soon after all, the producer did quantify what he meant, adding:
"Not Blizzard soon, Jared soon, which is a different thing".
So maybe the PVE story mode is genuinely just around the corner. Hopefully, we'll get a few more details next month around the time Season 4 arrives.
Is Overwatch 2 Story Mode Still Happening?
UPDATE: Blizzard has scrapped the story mode for Overwatch 2. The original story follows before that news was released.
Although there has not been a lot of information put out there for the story mode that is coming to Overwatch 2, players should still expect story mode to happen. That is because Blizzard has not said anything about canceling story mode and until that happens, it is safe to assume that it will still happen.
When Overwatch 2 was initially released, players were very much expecting story mode to release as well for the game. After all, one of the main reasons players were excited about Overwatch 2 was for story mode. But unfortunately, Blizzard said it would take too long for the game to be finished if they waited for story mode to be completed. So they decide to launch Overwatch 2 without story mode.
When Will Story Mode PVE Content Release For Overwatch 2
So far, Blizzard said that story mode in Overwatch 2 will launch in 2023. When Blizzard announced that they are separating the release of multi-player and story modes, they made it very clear that they are still working on story mode. As of this writing, there is still no concrete date for the launch of story mode.
Story mode could launch in Season 4 of Overwatch 2 at the very earliest. But that is assuming no plans have changed on the development side of it. If story mode does not launch in season 4, it will become unclear when it will actually launch for Overwatch 2. We will update this page once we know more.
What Will Players Be Able To Do In Story Mode In Overwatch 2?
From the looks of it, the story mode will be long PVE segments that will have the various characters explaining the story and lore as players move forward. Players will have to clear wave after wave of enemies to not only move forward but to learn what exactly is happening in the world of Overwatch.
It looks like there will also be ways to increase the skills of the various characters that you can use in story mode as well. Right now, it is unclear if this portion of the story mode will still happen when it eventually launches in 2023.
