Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Shiny Pokémon - How To Catch Them

Shiny hunters, ready your Master Balls! It's time to go shiny hunting in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Shiny Pokémon - How To Catch Them

Shiny Pokémon have been a staple of Pokémon games, both mainline and spinoff, since Generation II. Shiny Pokémon provides no in-game benefits regarding stat increases or exclusive moves, but they do provide lucky players with massive bragging rights! Shiny Pokémon have a 1/4096 chance of appearing with no influence (1/8192 prior to Generation VI), so if you manage to come across one, we hope you have enough Pokéballs to catch it.

However, as more and more shiny Pokémon hunters appear, Nintendo has introduced several mechanics to make acquiring shinies a lot easier. So, how will catching shiny Pokémon work in Scarlet and Violet? This guide will cover returning shiny hunting methods in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and new shiny mechanics that will be available in the Paldea region!

Update on 18 November 2022:This article has been updated with the latest info in Shiny Pokémon In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

How To Find Shiny Pokémon In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

It is not yet confirmed whether returning shiny hunting methods will be viable in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Previous shiny hunting methods are likely to return, but no confirmation about Masuda Method breeding or wild encounter chaining has been announced.

Additionally, the Shiny Charm has not yet been confirmed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but hopefully, completing the Paldea Pokédex will give players this unique item capable of lowering shiny odds.

Currently, the only method of finding shiny Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet is in the overworld at full odds.

Are Shiny Pokémon Visible In The Overworld In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Shiny Pokémon have been confirmed to be visible in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet overworld. Similar to Pokémon Let's Go! Pikachu, Let's Go! Eevee and Legends: Arceus, players will be able to directly see shiny variants roaming throughout the Paldea region.

This makes shiny hunting so much less time-consuming, as players no longer have to encounter hundreds of wild Pokémon to check if they are shiny. Be forewarned, it has also been confirmed that utilizing the auto-battle feature coming in Scarlet and Violet will open you up to potentially knocking out overworld Shiny Pokémon. It is possible to recall Pokémon during "auto-battle," so make sure you are paying attention.

Shiny Hunting Methods In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Sandwich Buffs are a new way to increase the overall shiny rates. After setting up a picnic in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, players can make sandwiches (similar to the curry mechanic in Pokémon Sword and Shield). These sandwiches have different effects, one of which is called "Encounter Power: Shiny Boost."

We don't know yet how much this boost will affect the shiny rate, but any bonus to the abysmally low base shiny odds is appreciated.
