The Deep Sea Scale is used to evolve a specific Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Clamperl is a highly unique Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as it has been in every title it’s been featured in. The Water-type Pokémon can evolve into two different mons but each of those evolutions requires Clamperl to be holding a specific item. Those items are challenging to find in Sinnoh.

One of the items is called the Deep Sea Scale and allows Clamperl to evolve into Gorebyss. The other item is the Deep Sea Tooth and evolves Clamperl into Huntail. For fans who want to get Gorebyss, they can look below to see where they can find the Deep Sea Scale in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The first location where you can find a Deep Sea Scale is in random caves in the Grand Underground. We happened to find ours in Riverbank Cave but it’s a random chance that one will spawn in a certain cave. This means that if you want to try and find it in the Grand Underground, you’ll have to keep searching different caves.

The other way to go is by catching three specific Pokémon. These Pokémon have a small chance to be holding the Deep Sea Scale when you catch them. The mons are Relicanth, Chinchou and Lanturn. If you manage to catch any of these Pokémon, check to see if they’re holding an item. If they are, there’s a good chance it’s a Deep Sea Scale.

Currently, those are the only two ways to find a Deep Sea Scale in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. This also means that these are the only ways to acquire Gorebyss in the games as well. If you do end up finding a Deep Sea Scale, give it to Clamperl and then you’ll need to trade it while holding the item to evolve it into Gorebyss.
