Pokémon GO Swampert - Best Moveset And Counters

As one of the best GO Battle League options, you'll need the best Swampert moveset for your team in Pokémon GO.
Pokémon GO Swampert - Best Moveset And Counters

Swampert has been one of the most powerful picks in the Pokémon GO Battle League for a long time, and that won't change any time soon. Even with so many new additions to the game, the Generation III starter is among the most popular picks for any high-level team.

Even if you don't have a Swampert for your competitive team, you've undoubtedly seen more than a few of them pop up in PvP. The Mud Fish Pokémon can also work as a fantastic option for raids, making it one of the most versatile Water-types in the game. But to harness its full potential, you need the right moveset.

While Swampert may be fairly easy to get, the most effective moveset is more elusive. Unless there is a new event on the horizon that is tailored to the Water-type starter, like a Community Day, you'll need an Elite Charge TM for this moveset. There are a few different attack options for the Mud Fish Pokémon, but Hyrdo Cannon is a must-have.

Before getting into the charge attacks, we need a useful fast attack. On this moveset, Mud Shot is a perfect choice. The move has some fair damage, but that's not the main goal. Instead, we choose Mud Shot because of the energy it gives with each hit.

Moving onto the charge attacks, you'll want to get your hands on Hydro Cannon. This is the move that requires an Elite Charge TM without an event. Hydro Cannon has a ton of damage and charges up in just a few hits. Having this move is what makes Swampert deadly as a closer and as a shield burning lead.

When you get to the second charge attack, you'll usually want to pick Earth Quake because of the universal damage it can do to nearly any Pokémon. However, Sludge Wave is fantastic if you're gearing the Generation III starter towards countering Grass-types or Fairy-types.

Swampert Counters in Pokémon GO

Whether you are sick of Swampert in the GO Battle League, or you are unsure when to swap yours out, it's important to know the counters to this Pokémon. The Mud Fish Pokémon is relatively weak in terms of defense and health, so knowing the weaknesses can make or break a battle.

Fighting-types and Grass-types will be some of the most powerful counters in general. In the Great League, you'll notice that Trevenant and Medicham can decimate Swampert without any fears. In the Ultra League, Walrein and Scrafty are another duo to look out for. But these counters can also translate to either league.

With the Pokémon GO Championship research on the horizon, you're about to see more Swamperts in the Great League than ever. Make sure to keep up on your counters and watch out for Sludge Wave if you have a Grass-type to ward the Water-type off.
