Rainbow Six: Siege’s Y5S1.2 Patch Notes: Jäger & Mozzie nerfed, Ying & Buck Skeleton buff plus more

With nerfs to Mozzie, the TCSG12 shotgun, and a massive buff to Ying, somehow Jäger’s nerf isn’t the most controversial choice in the latest Rainbow Six Siege update.
Rainbow Six: Siege’s Y5S1.2 Patch Notes: Jäger & Mozzie nerfed, Ying & Buck Skeleton buff plus more

Ubisoft has released the latest patch notes for Rainbow Six: Siege with the update now live on the Technical Test Server (TTS) patch notes and likely to be released officially in the coming days.

The Y5S1.2 update has many controversial changes, with buffs and nerfs to popular Operators.

It seems Ubisoft is gunning it for some powerful defending operators this patch, seeming to tackle the issue of the game becoming more “defender-favoured” each season, something which Pro League caster Milosh recently brought up in an AMA

Ying’s Buff

Let's start with the positives - Ying's buff.

This operator was originally released as Operation Blood Orchid’s sole attacker, and she has maintained a tumultuous relationship with Ubisoft’s balancing team ever since. Her performance skyrocketed in Year 4, and thus her smoke grenades were taken away.

Ying’s pick rate has been steadily declining ever since, prompting this latest buff. In this patch, she sports the return of her smoke grenades, a damage buff to her T-95 LSW light machine gun from 43 to 46 points of damage, and receiving a fourth candela.

Given her former “overpowered” status at her launch, the community seems to be less than thrilled to see her statistically more powerful than she was at her launch, with one more candela, better LMG, and her smoke grenades returning, not to mention the fact that her candela gadget was buffed to make her flashes more consistent, with each candela now sending out eight individual flashbangs instead of the former seven.

Caveira’s Buff

For a smaller change, Caveira now has the Razor Holographic Sight on her M12 submachine gun. Caveira’s M12 has been receiving quite a lot of positive attention as of late, (sporting a fresh damage buff since the last patch), and this new sight option should help keep Caveira viable.

Mozzie’s Nerf

Mozzie has lost his super shorty secondary, with no replacement as a secondary option. This seems to be one of the more controversial decisions, as Mozzie’s secondary shotgun is a massive part of his identity as an operator. It grants him the flexibility to make rotations for his teammates while dedicating him to his intel-gathering priorities.

TCSG12 Nerf

Kaid and Goyo’s TCSG12 shotgun has received a massive damage nerf, going from 84 damage down to 55. Ubisoft states that the TCSG can down any operator in two hits, and that kind of presence is not what they want for the weapon. To compensate for this change, they have added an additional magazine to its ammunition pool.

Buck’s Nerf

A massive part of the attacker Buck’s identity is tied to his frag grenade secondary gadget.

Since his launch in Operation Black Ice, he has maintained a set use in breaching the floors and walls around him and utilizing his frag grenades to great effect.

In this patch, Buck loses his frag grenades and gains a claymore in its place. This seems to be the most controversial balancing decision Ubisoft has ever made, with the community crying out for its reversal at every level of casual and competitive play

. In an attempt to compensate for this significant nerf, Buck has received additional ammunition to his Skeleton Key shotgun, and its capacity has been increased to 5+1 shots.

Jäger’s Nerf

Finally the equally adored and maligned German defender, Jäger.

He has been a force to be reckoned with since its launch, primarily due to his identity as a three-speed operator, and his massively good primary option in his 416-Carbine. He has been steadily nerfed over the past couple years, from losing his ACOG in Operation Blood Orchid to a damage nerf a couple of patches ago, to now becoming a two-speed two-armour operator.

Ubisoft states that they are listening to player feedback, and that feedback seems to be overwhelmingly negative. Jäger has maintained a near 90% presence statistic as of Operation Shifting Tides, and Ubisoft wants to combat this by making him more in-line with operators such as Wamai.

Balancing

BUCK - More keys, more open doors, more opportunities.

  • Frag Grenades replaced with Claymores
  • Increased Skeleton Key Magazine Capacity: Skeleton Key magazine capacity increased to 5 + 1, Skeleton Key max ammo count is now 25+1

Buck brings an exclusive soft breaching capability to his team that makes him the best at what he does, and we feel having Frag Grenades on top of that is a bit too much. The Claymore should reduce the punch in his kit from the frags, but do more to provide cover while he is soft breaching.

CAVEIRA - More customization!

  • Added Razor Holographic Sight option to her M12

We feel like the Razor is a great addition for the M12 due to the good visibility it grants while aiming and gives it more customization options.

JAGER - We are listening to your feedback. Thank you.

  • Now a 2-speed/2-armor operator.

Jager is a very strong roamer and multiple data points demonstrate his huge presence in-game. To make his presence a bit less oppressive in-game, we’re looking to moderate that by reducing his roaming potential.

MOZZIE - Still a shortie <3.

  • Removed Super Shorty secondary.

He is currently a powerful intelligence-counter and is a great roamer in the same breath. Altogether, this gives him very high game presence as a single Operator and we’re looking to tone down just how much he brings to his team.

YING - Giving our girl Ying a bit more love.

  • Increased number of Candelas to 4 (up from 3).
  • Replaced Claymores with Smoke Grenades.
  • Increased T-95 LSW damage to 46 (up from 43).

Ying’s presence is still lower than expected even after improving her candelas in the Y5S1. We hope that giving her kit some more juice in her gadgets and weapon should help her out on that front.

TCSG12 (Kaid, Goyo)

  • Added additional magazine to the TCSG12.
  • Reduced TCSG12 damage to 55 (down from 84).

The TCSG12 as it is now can currently kill any operator with 2 shots. We’re adding an extra magazine while reducing its power to give more firefight stamina without being overly punishing.
