Ultimate Summit 3 prize pool surpasses $150k

The Ultimate Summit 3 invitational is set to become the tournament with the highest prize pool in Smash history just weeks after Summit 11 took that honour.
It seems Smash fans are excited about the return of offline events, as just a month after Summit 11 broke the record for the biggest prize pool in the community's history, Ultimate Summit 3 is set to surpass it, having already accumulated over $150k during the initial crowdfunding phase.

The Summit invitationals, which are events organised by Beyond The Summit for both Melee and Ultimate, allow fans to fund the prize pool by directly contributing or buying merchandise in their official store, exchanging the amount they spend for a set number of votes which they can use to endorse players looking to opt-in for a spot.

Even after the voting phase is over, fans can still donate to the prize pool, with Summit 11, won by Joseph "Mang0" Marquez in spectacular fashion, amassed a total of $155,669 when it

As of the time of writing, the Ultimate Summit 3 prize pool sits at 3,675, meaning it's not a matter of if but rather when will it surpass Summit 11's number.

It's worth mentioning that the upcoming Ultimate Summit 3 will be the first of three Smash events sponsored by crypto platform Coinbase. It'll remain to be seen how will that affect the prize pool, if at all.

At the time of writing, there are still 13 days left to go, with the crowdfunding set to end on 31st August at roughly 08:00 BST.
