Tales of the Shire is an upcoming RPG from developer Wētā Workshop and published by Private Division. The game released its official announcement trailer on 22nd April 2024, which confirmed a handful of gameplay details, features, and available platforms.
Following the release of the announcement trailer, the developer or publisher confirmed a release date for Tales of the Shire but stated that the game has a 2024 release window. The official news release details that it will be released on the second of 2024 when the game is available to add to players' Wishlist.

Tales of the Shire is set in the fictional location of Bywater in the world based on "the literary works" of beloved author J.R.R. Tolkien. As Hobbits, they begin their cozy adventures in this quaint village and complete various activities to build the village and its community and see it "flourish" in Hobbiton.
Some of the activities that they'll be able to engage in include decorating their homes, developing their garden, fishing, foraging, cooking, and trading with fellow Hobbits. Additionally, they can develop friendships with their neighbors and invite them to dinner parties to continue fostering these friendships.
Tales Of The Shire Key Gameplay Features
As players control a Hobbit, the game will feature a character customization feature to create their unique Hobbit. They'll be able to personalize their created character in various Hobbit clothing items, and they can acquire more clothing when trading with other Hobbits in the village.
They'll also have a Hobbit house to call home, which can be decorated with beautiful furnishing pieces to transform their spaces from empty and cold to warm and cozy. This can be achieved using a grid-free placement tool to position their furniture to create an aesthetically pleasing room, with the backdrop of Bywater bringing in much-needed lighting and atmosphere.
As mentioned before, players can engage in various activities, including cooking, fishing, foraging, and gardening. They can grow fresh produce from their home garden, which they can use to trade with villagers and prepare delicious meals from their kitchen.
These meals can be shared with villagers by hosting them for breakfast or dinner to forge and develop friendships. Speaking of trading, various villagers will be available in Bywater with whom they can trade to unlock unique upgrades for their clothes, home, skills, and more, contributing to their progress.
Likewise, they can also grow various plants and flowers from their home garden, which can be harvested and used to decorate their homes or prepare food. Lastly, the world of the Shire is there for exploring as they can wander around Bywater and surrounding locations. There are plenty of things to find, secrets to uncover, and treasures to unearth.
Tales of the Shire features a dynamic weather system that impacts their daily adventures and routines, bringing forth unique surprises. Additionally, there are rewards to unlock and claim, contributing to their gameplay progression and club missions to help them complete activities to rank Bywater's village status.
