Valorant dll issue with VCRUNTIME140 error: How to fix

On 1st September, Riot Games released the Valorant 1.07 patch, which made a tonne of changes to the game, including Agent balance changes, weapon changes, and a new, handy remake match feature. However, the patch also introduced Valorant .dll issues as players have been getting the VCRUNTIME140 error. Here's how you can potentially fix it.

Valorant .dll VCRUNTIME140 error: How to fix

First off, it is important to note Riot Games is actively working on a fix for this issue. In fact, the developer announced in the early hours of the morning on 2nd September they will be delaying deployment in several regions.

Riot will first fix the Valorant .dll VCRUNTIME140 error before deploying to most other regions. However, we all know some players can't wait a day to jump into Valorant after the update.

There is a potential fix. players are getting the Valorant .dll VCRUNTIME140 error because of a missing Windows Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file, which is required to run the game.

The exact Valorant error you should be looking for reads: "The program can't start because vcruntime140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Please note: Proceed with the steps below at your own risk.

To fix the Valorant .dll VCRUNTIME140 error, you need to install the latest Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft, as this error only occurs for Windows users. To do so and fix the Valorant .dll issue, follow the steps below.

  • Head to the Microsoft support page.
  • Under 'Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019', download and install both the vc_redist.x86.exe and the vc_redist.x64.exe. One is for 32-bit programs, while the other is for 64-bit programs.
  • Restart windows.
  • Run Valorant without the VCRUNTIME140 error.

This is not a sure-fire fix but it will very likely work if you are running into this Valorant error.

You can always just wait until 3rd September when Riot Games will officially fix the Valorant 1.07 patch. At the time of writing, the developer has not revealed an exact time for the release of the fix.
