Best Horizon Forbidden West skills for early game

One of the most impressive aspects of Horizon Forbidden West gameplay is the multitude of skills and customization available. Selecting the right skills allows you to tailor the game to your specific playstyle, creating a totally unique experience.

With over 160 skills to select from, it can be a bit daunting to find the best loadout for progressing the title. To help aid your process and keep your storyline moving, let's look through some of the best skills for early game action in Horizon Forbidden West.

Skills are broken into six categories, and also include ultimate abilities. The skill categories are Warrior, Trapper, Hunter, Survivor, Infiltrator, and Machine Master, and each skill costs points to unlock.

At the beginning of the game, you will have 10 skill points to spend with each skill costing one point to unlock (they will cost more as you progress the game). Here's what you should spend those first free skill points on to set yourself up for the most success.

  • Concentration+: Increases concentration limit
  • Deep Concentration: Concentration depletes slower
  • Concentration Regen: Recovers concentration faster
  • Quick Trapper: Place traps faster
  • Low Health Defense: Decreases damage taken when below 25% health
  • Potent Medicine: Provides faster and more healing
  • Silent Strike+: Silent Strikes deal more damage
  • Stealth Tear+: Increases tear damage while in stealth
  • Resonator Blast: Blast targets with a ranged weapon to deal increased damage
  • Block Breaker: Breaks a human opponent's guard

This setup provides players with a solid base of well-rounded skills for multiple facets of early gameplay. Concentration skills will be vital against machine enemies in early-game to neutralize their dash and sway abilities.

Low Health Defense is one of the best skills early-game because it's relevant to the percentage of health, meaning it will scale as you progress the title and increase your health bar. The Stealth Tear+ and Silent Strike+ skills allow you to take enemies out quicker while staying under the radar.

The Forbidden West storyline features an ongoing civil war, and you will encounter many human opponents, so Block Breaker is a very good skill to have in your arsenal to combat these enemies. Enjoy the early gameplay and be sure to check back with GINX for all your Horizon Forbidden West needs.
