New James Bond game announced from Hitman developer IO

Hitman developer IO Interactive has announced a new James Bond game.

Given the working title Project 007, the game will be developed and published by the studio - who have earned critical acclaim for recent instalments in the Hitman franchise

An official synopsis reads: “Featuring a wholly original James Bond story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favourite secret agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story.”

IO Interactive is currently recruiting for people around the world to help with the project, so it sounds like it’ll be a long way off yet.

The studio certainly feels like the best fit for a new James Bond game, considering their work on the stealth-based assassinations of Hitman.

This marks a new generation of James Bond games too, with the last being 007 Legends released way back in 2012 (spoiler, it was rubbish).

But will they take the sandbox route with James Bond? Or could this be a more narrative-driven, linear experience? We’ll have to wait and see.

Project 007 will be released on “modern systems and platforms” with development taking place across IO Interactive’s studios in Denmark and Sweden.

“It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive. “Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities.

“Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”
