Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Is Steam Deck Verified

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is leaving the bubble of PlayStation exclusivity and becoming another game to be ported to PC, and now it turns out you'll be able to play the critically acclaimed title on the go.

Insomniac Games tweeted late last night that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is now Steam Deck Verified, meaning that it has been tested on that system by Valve. According to Valve, a game has to pass four separate tests in order to actually become fully Steam Deck Verified rather than merely Steam Deck Compatible, as is the case with several other games. These tests are as follows, taken directly from the Steam Deck site:

Input: The title should have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed.

Seamlessness: The title shouldn’t display any compatibility warnings, and if there’s a launcher it should be navigable with a controller.

System Support: If running through Proton, the game, and all its middleware should be supported by Proton. This includes anti-cheat support.

Display: The game should support the default resolution of Steam Deck (1280x800 or 1280x720), have good default settings, and text should be legible.

While the game is Steam Deck Verified and it will run on the system, it'll likely run at the lowest possible settings. The PC specs for the system are pretty demanding, and to run on a Steam Deck the game would have to run at 720p at 30FPS. That may seem low, but it's worth noting that the Steam Deck has a maximum portable resolution of 800p anyway, so it's not that huge of a loss.
