Windjammers 2: Release date, PC system requirements, gameplay, features, and more

Windjammers 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to the 1994 arcade classic, finally releasing in 2022. On the back of a successful game port in 2016, the same development team are returning to produce what they believe is "the ultimate sequel that the original game deserves".

As we approach the sequel's release later this month, here's everything you need to know about Windjammers 2, from its exact release date to gameplay, features and more.

Windjammers 2 Release date

Windjammers 2 is scheduled for release on 20th January 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. In addition, the developer has noted that they'll be bringing the game to Xbox Game Pass on its global release day.

Windjammers 2 Gameplay

Windjammers 2 is an action-packed sports game from French developer, DotEmu. Working closely with the game's original developer who helped build Windjammers 2 from the ground up to deliver a classic arcade to console and PC.

Staying true to its predecessor, the development of its gameplay was came with its own set of challenges. Disassembling the game's original code to understand and recreate the characters' movement was one of the steps to develop a "true sequel" to Windjammers.

Together with the French Windjammers community, who tested every game build throughout its development, the team had unlocked the "essence" of the game before moving forward. Adjusting the gameplay ratio from 4:3 to widescreen allowed the developers to design larger courts, giving players more room to play.

Along with new playable characters, the team added more movesets to all characters, which will allow them to jump, do slapshots and drop shots to catch their opponents off-guard. With such depth in gameplay and character movesets, the team stated that "no two matches are the same" in Windjammers 2.

Windjammers 2 Features

According to the developer, the upcoming sequel will include "new stages and players, surprising and amazing new power moves and enhanced gameplay mechanics" for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, it will consist of modern gameplay features to create the ultimate Windjammers experience.

These new features include:

• Ten new playable characters alongside returning athletes
• New game mechanics for deeper gameplay
• Ten new and unique Windjammers courts
• Arcade mode with more games and challenging matches
• Casual and competitive online modes

Windjammers 2 PC system requirements

Windjammers 2's Steam page has yet to announce the recommended PC system requirements to play the game. As such, we have outlined the minimum requirements to have you throw frisbees in no time.
