Would you shoot someone for a PlayStation 5?

It's no secret that Sony's PlayStation 5 console is a hot commodity, particularly given that it's in short supply. This is true, despite the next-gen console having been released over a year ago. Unfortunately, while many would die to get their hands on a PlayStation 5, it seems as though some desperate individuals would go as far as risking jail time to own one.

A recent news report revealed that a 19-year-old male sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in his side attempting to sell his PlayStation 5 console to an unidentified stranger online. The suspect later fled the scene without the console.

Texas teen shot with firearm trying to sell PlayStation 5

In an interview with ABC13, Lt. Paul Bruce from the Harris County Sherriff's Office explained that the Texas teen listed his PlayStation 5 console for sale on a website and was later contacted by a man who expressed interest in purchasing the console from him.

The two agreed to conduct the sale at the seller's house, which several other people allegedly occupied at the time. Once inside the house, the buyer threatened the teen with a firearm. After some commotion, the buyer later shot the teen in an attempt to rob him of the PlayStation 5.

According to Lt. Bruce, the incident occurred at roughly 1:30  pm in the 8300 Block of Gros Ventre Lane in Harris County, Texas.

The police were subsequently dispatched to the area after responding to a 911 call. During the interview, Lt. Bruce noted that once deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered that the buyer endured a gunshot wound to his left side and subsequently rushed him to the hospital.

At present, the victim is listed in a stable condition in the hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. However, Lt. Burce indicated that the suspect is still at large, and they have yet to put out a BOLO or description of the wanted man at this time.

Despite shooting the buyer, the news report also noted that the suspect left without stealing the PlayStation 5.

While we certainly condemn the buyer's actions, we implore our readers to remain vigilant and be careful when conducting transactions with strangers. While this incident could happen to anyone, it is vital to take the necessary precautions to stay safe.
