One of the biggest surprise hits for 2023 was Dave The Diver. When the game initially launched, it went under the radar but very quickly sold 1 million copies which was a shock to everyone. The game has a pretty simple game loop, you dive into the water and catch a variety of aquatic life to serve as sushi to your customers.

As you catch fish to serve as sushi in Dave The Diver, you are also following along the main story of the game. Although the game is rather simplistic on the surface, there are actually a lot of different complicated systems on the surface.   • [Chapter 3] Fixed an issue that prevented further progress during Bancho’s flashback sequence

"Greetings, Divers! We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes to bring you an exciting new update. Our team has tried our best to address your feedback and are thrilled to introduce a wave of fresh content that will enhance your diving experience. Get ready to embark on new adventures and explore the ocean like never before!"
 
[New Contents]

 

1) New Story - Sub Missions
  • New sub missions have been added to late-game regions  (Glacial Area/Passage), which were previously focused on the main story.
2) Lobsters & Crab Traps
  • New crabs and lobsters have been introduced along with the system called ‘Crab Traps’, which are used for catching them.
  • You can set up crab traps and wait to capture crabs, lobsters, and etc.
  • A new “Lobster Party” event, featuring new species, have been added.
3) Auto Farming
  • Hire MC Sammy to help with chores in the farm.
  • New devices for storing eggs and feeding chickens have been added.
4) New Event Boss
  • A new boss will appear when ALL Marinca cards have been collected.
5) New Special Customer - Wandering Merchant
  • New special customer ‘Wandering Merchant’ will visit Bancho Sushi.
  • Serve him a special dish and he’ll occasionally return to sell various items, including new ingredients.
6) New Night Species
  • To address the issue of many daytime fish species being prevalent during night dives, we are introducing new exclusive fish species that can only be found at night.
7) Additional Contents
  • Seed upgrade is now available at Kazhin’s seed shop.
  • An ‘Operator' has been added to your contacts.
      Contact the operator to enter promotion codes, check your fortune, and review your dive information.
  • A new ‘Nocturnal’ category has been added to the Marinca. Species that only appear at night will be moved to this category.
8) Trading Cards & Steam Point Shop Items
  • Various Steam Point Shop items including Trading Cards, Emoticons, and Backgrounds will be added.
[Improvements & Balance Changes]

1) Loading Time and Performance Improvements

  • We’ve conducted an overall optimization of the game, resulting in shorter loading times and overall performance enhancements.
  • Face icons of NPCs are now displayed on the loading screen.
2) Underwater Exploration
  • Aggro range, speed, and damage of thresher sharks have been reduced.
  • The magazine that Dave reads during the depressurizing screen in the escape pod has changed to ‘Weekly Fish’.
3) Missions
  • [Chapter 2] You can now resume your progress from a mid-mission save point even if you die when escorting Ramo.
  • [Chapter 2] Improved the issue where it was difficult to notice that a phone call had to be made after defeating the Giant Squid.
4) Sushi Restaurant
  • Made improvements to prevent the same party from being selected repeatedly.
  • [After Chapter 3] Addressed the issue where the chopping animation was a bit off during the VIP cooking battle.
  • When each employee reaches their maximum level, you can view their Cooksta feed which showcases their daily lives on your phone.
  • You can now engage in new conversations with the employees assigned as managers during daytime.
  • New Bancho cutscene for enhancing dishes have been added.
5) Farm & Fish Farm
  • Added an option to prioritize 2-star or 3-star fish when utilizing the ‘Keep up to 2’ function.
  • You can now farm fish species that were previously unavailable in the fish farm.
6) Sea People Village
  • You can now purchase seeds directly from Gumo at the seaweed farm.
  • New dumpling has been added at Mima’s Restaurant.
  • New missions for late-game have been added to the board in Sea People Village.
7) Other Improvements
  • You can now engage in more diverse conversations with the people on your contacts.
  • [Japanese Only] Ruby characters have been added for divers who play the game in Japanese.
[Bug Fixes]

 

1) Missions
  • [After Chapter 3] Fixed an issue where the ‘Wedding Song Record’ mission could not be completed under certain circumstances.
  • [Chapter 6] Fixed an issue where the menatee would pass through walls in the ‘Lost Baby Menatee’ mission.
2) Sushi Restaurant
  • [After Chapter 3] Fixed an issue in the ‘Whose fried food is the best?’ mission where ingredients would occasionally fall outside the pot.
  • [After Chapter 3] Fixed an issue where not all customers would enter the restaurant during the Jellyfish Party
  • Fixed an issue where Luis’s contact was not registered in specific situations.
  • Fixed an issue where the BGM did not speed up when the restaurant was about to close.
3) Underwater Exploration
  • Fixed an issue where the movements of the Pink Dolphin would appear choppy when taking photos in its photo spot.
  • Fixed an issue where the background UI of item acquisition screen was displayed abnormally in specific regions.
  • Fixed an issue where the ammo box disappeared in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue where Dave’s breathing effect was not displayed in some cutscenes.

  • Fixed the typos and errors of in-game texts that were reported in our community channels.
  • Fixed an issue where texts would go over their UI boundaries in the pause window during mid-dive.
  • Fixed an issue where the fish farm tutorial was not displayed as intended when playing the game in certain resolutions.

[IMPROVEMENTS]
 
1) Sea People Village
  • Improved Duwa’s Workshop so that after purchasing an item, the selected focus in the menu UI remains on the purchased product.
2) Other Improvements
  • Addressed the issue where loading times gradually increased when moving between regions during extended gameplay.

[BUG FIXES]
 
1) Boss Fights
  • [Chapter 6] Fixed an issue where the 
    Helicoprion
     could invade the Suwam’s space of movement.
  • [Chatper 4] Fixed an issue where the submarine would remain on the map even after the battle with John Watson had ended.
  • [Chapter 3] Fixed an issue where the  Goblin Shark did not attack Dave when it was near walls and/or passages.

2) Underwater Exploration

  • Fixed an issue where large fish caught with the Steel Net Sensor Trap could not be brought in with Salvage Drones.
  • Fixed an issue where controls were sometimes unresponsive, even before the QTE interactions, when dodging the attack of a Longnose Sawshark.
  • [After Chapter 4] Fixed an issue where some graphic remnants of escape QTE interactions remained visible during and after battles with the 
    Pelican Eel.
  • Fixed an issue where all the filter options of the Fish Tracker were displayed as ‘Obtained’.
  • [After Chapter 3] Fixed an issue where Dave could not move when tranquilizing the  Humboldt Squid under certain conditions.
  • Adjusted the shark placement so that two or more sharks would not appear in the same area during the Storm Shark Party.
3) Missions
  • Fixed an issue where Gadon could not attack Dave in certain locations of the  Abandoned Cave
  • Fixed an issue where the game could not be saved under certain conditions when Dave died during the Abandoned Cave mission.
4) Weapons
  • Fixed an issue where button interactions for certain harpoon tips and fish did not work correctly when using a controller, even when the ‘Automated button tapping’ feature was enabled.
  • Fixed an issue where the bullet graphics of the Sticky Mine Launcher appeared abnormally or seemed to disappear in specific situations.
  • Fixed an issue in which after crafting certain weapons that would require boss materials, the materials used would regenerate.
5) Sea People Village
  • Fixed an issue where the list of items below the sold item was not displayed under certain conditions in Duwa’s Workshop.
  • Fixed an issue where items could be sold as ‘-1 Bei’ under certain conditions in Duwa’s Workshop.
  • Fixed an issue where the mini-map UI would disappear when selecting the mini-map with the Fish Tracker opened.
6) Sushi Restaurant
  • Fixed an issue where the ‘Close’ button in the employee recruitment tutorial was unresponsive when clicked with a mouse.
7) Other Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where selecting a language not directly shown in the language selection window and pressing the confirm button would result in unresponsiveness.
  • Improved the translation quality and corrected typos in various texts reported by the community.

DEV NOTE

Greetings, Divers! There were a few issues after yesterday's update. We wanted to address them promptly, so we're rolling out another hotfix to resolve those issues. If you're experiencing an abnormal amount of crashes, please follow the guide in the link below to verify the integrity of game files on Steam.

  • Fixed an issue where Dave was sometimes appearing in strange locations when moving to another region.

  • Fixed an issue where the Ingredient Filter within the Management App was not working as intended.

4) Missions

Improvements

1) In-game Controls
  • Added functions that support automated QTE (Quick time event)
      - There will now be an additional function for processing QTEs (button-mashing)
      : Automated process by pushing one button.
      - The interaction gauge will automatically charge with the simple press of a button.
      - This function can be turned ON/OFF in the settings.
  • Controller TYPES can now be selected.
      - Xbox Controller
      - DUALSHOCK®4
      - DualSense
      - Switch Pro Controller
  • Base settings will “automatically” detect the connected controller and display related buttons.
      - If Steam Input is used, however, Xbox controls will be displayed/used.
2) System Optimization
  • Overall build and patch size has been reduced with certain changes in resource arrangement.
  • Overall optimization has been improved so that the game may run in devices with lower specs.
3) UI Updates
  • Overall UI size has been readjusted
      - UI size has been improved to fit the needs of not only the PC users, but also to support players with a Steam Deck.
  • Inventory sorting function has been added.
      - Divers can now easily check their acquired items and get rid of unnecessary goods when diving.
        - Items in inventory can be sorted by their Acquired Date/Weight/Name/Rank/Amount
  • Movement in a menu that’s in a vertical list has been improved.
      - Pressing up/down once more when at the top and/or bottom of a list will allow you to go to the opposite side of the list.
4) Sushi Restaurant
  • [After Chapter 6] Option to serve party dishes has been added
        - When setting the Operation Policy for the Branch, divers can now select an option to provide party dishes to normal customers.

        - When the setting is turned ON, party dishes will be served to normal customers

        - Please note that if there aren’t enough dishes to be served, dishes meant for party customers may be sent to normal customers.

  • [After Chapter 4] Cocktail colors have changed
        -Cocktail colors have changed to support color-blind players.

  • Maki can no longer be dismissed.
      - If Maki has already been dismissed, she will return to you as Level 1.
5) Underwater Exploration
  • [After Chapter 3] Improved Beluga Taxi controls
  • A warning message will now be displayed when an event forces you to leave the water.
      - For certain events, you will return to the place where you left off, instead of going to the lobby after the event ends.
  • Improved the message displayed when using the Cargo Box while at max capacity state (weight).
  • Image, name, and description Blackspot Seabream (Salema Porgy) have changed.
      - Fixed the issue where the details of the fish did not match that of the real-life version.
  • Improved the movement/direction logic of certain fish types.

  • Improved the descriptions of certain weapon enhancement parts.
6) Farm & Fish Farm
  • Added the ‘Keep up to 2’ option in the Fish Farm.
      - Added an option to keep 2 of the same species for breeding when selling/transferring ingredients.
  • Fixed an issue where offspring of mammals were displayed as roe.

  • Watering Can no longer be sold.
      - If you’ve already sold the Watering Can, you can acquire the original ‘Watering Can’ after the update.
7) Minigame - GYAO!
  • GYAO! Codex and Marinca has been separated.
      - GYAO has been removed from the Marinca app, and cards acquired in GYAO! can be checked through the codex within the Minigame.
  • ‘Revive’ function has been added to GYAO.
8) Other Improvements
  • Improved the overall text quality of French / German / Spanish / Portuguese.
  • Mouse cursor will no longer be displayed when playing with a controller.
  • Steel Net can now be purchased in the Cobra Shop at all times when a Tuna Party is in progress
  • The overall sound quality has been improved.
  • Korean & Japanese title screens have been localized.
[Balance Updates]
 
1) Sushi Restaurant
  • Adjusted the in-game balance of operation costs and employee wages.
      - Operation costs for Platinum & Diamond rank have decreased.
      - Employee wages have increased depending on their level.
  • Increased the selling prices of certain sushi dishes and ingredients.

  • Changed the unlock conditions for special customers
      - Before: Customers are unlocked by meeting certain conditions.
      - After: Customers are unlocked depending on the Cooksta grade.
2) Weapon Enhancement Parts
    • Overall balance of Weapons has been made as shown below.

Triple Axel Weapons

- Magazine capacity has increased.
- Base damage increased for certain weapons.
 
Sniper Weapons
- Magazine capacity for the max-level weapons has increased.

- Magazine capacity has increased

- Range and aim angles have increased
- The number of rounds it takes for the target to freeze has decreased.
