The original Alan Wake took, on average, about 10 hours to complete, while Remedy's Control was about 12 hours on average to beat the main story. Alan Wake 2 is the developer's first real survival horror game, and they wanted to make it "brutal and harrowing" as players explore two unique worlds. Yes, the original Alan Wake was more of an action-adventure title with horror elements.

The expected higher difficulty and two stories unfolding in two worlds lead to the game's story being much longer than the original and Control. We are pleased to report that Alan Wake 2 should take roughly 20 hours or more to complete.

The estimated length of Alan Wake 2's story comes from the game's Creative Director, Sam Lake, who revealed this detail in a recent Kinda Funny podcast.

In the history of Remedy games, we've typically created story-focused, relatively short games, around 10 hours or so. Internally, we've always felt the need to explore longer games, partly because players consider the value of their money. Control was our longest game at that point, and Alan Wake 2 will be even longer, clocking in at 20 hours or more.

That's fantastic news for those who want a meaty survival horror experience to play on Halloween and beyond.

So there you have it; Alan Wake 2 should take about 20 hours to complete on average. Keep in mind that this time to beat can vary greatly from player to player, depending on skill and comfort level with survival horror titles.
