Words of Power are one of the many collectibles in Alan Wake 2 that act as a skill tree. They boost Alan’s stats and weapons and are found as glowing scribbles. There are 27 Words of Power, each giving a different perk to improve the protagonist's fighting or survival skills.
However, finding them is not easy, as they're well hidden in the game. Therefore, this article lists all the spots where you can find Words of Power in Alan Wake 2 and enhance your perks.
All Words of Power Types in Alan Wake 2
The types of Words of Power include:
- Words of Fix – Boost your health to the max.
- Words of Gun – Fire the Revolver without wasting bullets.
- Words of War – Blast multiple foes with one shotgun shot.
- Words of Stuff – Reveal all secrets and treasures on Wake’s map.
- Words of Aid – Light up a larger area for longer with the Hand Flare.
- Words of Action – Deal more damage to nearby enemies.
- Words of Lamp – Kill an enemy and recharge your Flashlight.
Where to Find Every Word of Power in Alan Wake 2
To find Word of Power, players must explore the Dark Place, a twisted realm where Alan’s stories come to life. Along the way, they will encounter arrows that only show up under the flashlight’s beam.
These arrows will guide them to scribbled drawings on walls, floors, or ceilings. Players must align themselves with the drawings and hold their flashlight steady until the screen flickers. This will unlock the perk and add it to the upgrade menu.
Main Plaza
- Word of Power #1 (War)
- Find a police car near the last glyph. Use your Angel Lamp to change the environment and kill some Taken shadows. Check the wall next to the car.
- Word of Power #2 (Lamp)
- Use your Angel Lamp on the right pole. Climb the stairs to the High Line. Follow the arrow to the left and exit. The glyph is there.
- Word of Power #3 (Fix)
- In an alley, follow the light arrow to a narrow spot. The Word of Power is hidden there.
- Word of Power #4 (Action)
- Go east to Draft Street and flash your light on the railway above.
- Word of Power #5 (Fix)
- Search the trash area behind the Talk Show Studio.
- Word of Power #6 (Gun)
- Find Tim Breaker and enter the next alley section. Climb the ladder and go clockwise. The Word of Power is between the air conditioners.
Subway

Past the Collapsed Tunnel, see two tunnels side by side. Use Angel Lamp on the cart in the other portion. Enter the small room with a glyph.

Further in Shrine Street Station, see two trains next to each other. Use an Angel Lamp outside the train to make light flicker. Tag scribble.

See the Derailed Train scene, and look up the drawing.

Switch Derailed Train scene to Torchbearers. Pass through the wreckage to a small room with Echo. Climb down the ladder and smash the wooden board with melee. Glyph is there.

Go down to Caldera Street Station subway with Angel Lamp. Look right for the abandoned train. Use Angel Lamp again to reveal the perk.

Past the first subway save point, loop around construction materials. Check arrows for perks.

After #5, go to the next area with Taken shades. Kill them, and check the wall behind the ticketing booth with “Lost” graffiti.

Exit the previous area and arrive at Shrine Street Station. Check the left segment that’s partially flooded. Arrow and far wall have perk.

Have the End of the Line scene, use the Murder Cult option for Echo. Unlock the Summoning Ritual theme and choose it to shift reality. Exit on the right-hand side, the next room has Word of Power.

Word of Power #10 (Fix)

After #9, go up the steps to the Break Room/save point. The other door leads back to the Collapsed Tunnel scene. Check the wall behind the metal gate for scribble.

Oceanview Hotel
- Word of Power #1 (Stuff)
- The bar counter in the hotel has a glyph. It is camouflaged, so watch out for any clues.
- Word of Power #2 (War)
- On the second floor, look for the emergency exits. Above the glass doors, there is a prize waiting for you.
- Word of Power #3 (War)
- Go from room 104 to 225, then enter room 224. There is an arrow pointing to a board. Smash the board with a weapon. The bathroom wall has a hidden glyph.
Back Alley/Rooftop
- Word of Power #1 (Aid)
- In the Back Alley, look left of Oceanview Hotel. Find the Words of Power on a building wall.
- Word of Power #2 (Gun)
- Follow glowing arrows on the south rooftop to a glyph.
- Word of Power #3 (Lamp)
- Near a door with two triangles on the north rooftop, see the glyph on a water tank.
