Capture the Flag leaked in recent Black Ops Cold War trailer

A recent trailer for Black Ops Cold War seems to indicate that the fan-favourite mode Capture the Flag is soon making a return.

For years, there were many staples of the Call of Duty franchise. From specific scorestreaks to map design to game modes, developers simply didn’t change up the formula in certain areas from year to year. One of those many staples was the popular game mode “Capture the Flag.”

Based around the schoolyard game of the same name, Capture the Flag was an ultra-competitive mode that was even featured in the esports scene. The mode remained in the competitive rotation until Black Ops 4 when Treyarch introduced Control. As if this wasn’t enough for fans of the mode, Modern Warfare didn’t even feature it in public matches last year.

However, a trailer for the Call of Duty League skins in Black Ops Cold War may have hinted that CTF is close to returning.

Black Ops Cold War to reintroduce Capture the Flag?

The trailer in question is solely meant to showcase the new Call of Duty League skin packs in Black Ops Cold War. The packs are releasing to mark the start of the 2021 CDL season beginning on 11th February. While the new skins are certainly worth talking about by themselves, some keen-eyed fans noticed something peculiar in the trailer.

Around the halfway point of the trailer, an Operator wearing London Royal Ravens gear is seen with a flag on his back. The flag has a wolf logo on it with a light blue background, which hasn’t been seen before.

As many fans pointed out when the news spread, the flag’s position on the Operator’s back is eerily similar to previous titles. While this doesn’t confirm anything, it seems highly unlikely Activision would include this in a trailer if nothing was to eventually come from it.

In regards to what this means for the Call of Duty League, nothing is for certain. Activision could opt to add a fourth mode into the competitive rotation, along with Hardpoint, Control, and Search and Destroy, or make CTF a public match only. However, it’s noteworthy we see CTF hinted at in a trailer promoting the professional scene.
