It's been just over a year since we last saw Abdul "degster" Gasanov on the server, playing for OG at the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 on May 10, 2023. Now, in a surprise move for many, HEROIC has announced degster as their new primary AWPer, just before a big Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports event, BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024, gets underway.

Abdul "degster" Gasanov replaces Danish player Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi as HEROIC's wielder of the "Big Green," adding more firepower. HEROIC has, of course, not been doing too well as of late, as we haven't seen them even come close to an S-Tier event's grand final.

The head coach of HEROIC's CS2 squad, Eetu "sAw" Saha, speaks about degster's addition to the team in an announcement post, stating:

Degster is a player who has an insanely high skill ceiling and that makes it really interesting to bring him in. He has a versatile playstyle, will bring a lot of initiative to the team with his ideas, as well as just raw fragging power. On top of that he is really passionate about the game and I'm assuming that will show with his high level of energy inside and outside of the server.

The timing of the move, however, does mean that HEROIC will face MIBR on May 14 at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 with a "new" AWPer who might not have perfectly acclimated to the squad just yet.

Eetu "sAw" Saha mentioned the timing, stating that:

There could always be different timings to do changes, but the calendar is really packed. Doing a change now will give the team and degster some time to adapt and gel together before the start of the next season. This way, we will have some kind of foundation to work with when coming back from the summer break.

How will degster's first outing with HEROIC go? We can't wait to find out!
