You can get the Thron catalyst by playing the game's ritual activities, such as Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit playlists. The Thorne catalyst is a random drop, so it may take a few runs till you get your hands on it. 

Is The Thorn Catalyst Worth It?

Yes, it is. Thron catalyst increases the weapon's range and stability. Furthermore, dealing final blows and absorbing Remnants gives you bonus weapon range, increased mobility, and handling for a short time. This makes Thorne an absolute beast on the battlefield and gives you an unprecedented advantage in Crucible matches.
