The International 2018

Esports has plenty of major tournaments, but Dota 2’s “The International” stands head and shoulders above the rest. With consistently the highest prize pool of any esports event, TI draws in millions of viewers year and year. It’s the centrepiece of Dota 2’s competitive calendar – all the other majors provide qualifying points for the International. The last edition, The International 2017, boasted a frankly absurd $24M prize pool, the lion's share of which was won by a surging Team Liquid. Of course, GINX viewers will know this already, as the tournaments was shown live in our 50 million (plus!) households.

This year, Virtus.pro, Team Liquid, PSG.LGD, Team Secret, Mineski, Vici Gaming, Newbee, VGJ.Thunder make up the list of invites. The qualifiers are OG, Winstrike Team, Team Serenity, Invictus Gaming, Fnatic, TNC Predator, VGJ.Storm, Evil Geniuses, OpTic Gaming and paiN Gaming. The same format from last year returns for the 2018 edition. A group stage will take place before the event (between August 15 and August 18) to whittle the 18 teams down to 16. Teams will then be seeded into a double elimination bracket according to their results in groups, where they'll compete for the ultimate prize. The full list of broadcast talent for the event has been revealed. There are six hosts: William "Chobra" Cho, Paul "Redeye" Chalonger, Alex "Machine" Richardson, Kaci "Kaci" Aitchison, Jake "SirActionSlacks" Kanner and Jorien "Sheever" van der Heijden, who makes a welcome return after missing last year's International because of medical problems. David "GoDz" Parker, Kevin "Purge" Godec, Toby "TobiWan" Dawson, Austin "Capitalist" Walsh, Owen "ODPixel" Davies and Gabriel "Lyrical" Cruz are also on the team.

How to watch

Watch The International on the dota2ti Twitch stream: There will also be a newcomer stream aimed at newer players, which could be a better fit if Dota 2 isn't your main game:
