Tamriel is a massive continent, which makes adventuring across its various regions solo a somewhat lonely experience. That's why developer Zenimax Online introduced recruitable companions in Elder Scrolls Online's (ESO) latest Blackwood expansion.

If you weren't aware, companions in ESO are multilayered characters with believable personalities, complete with things they like and dislike. They can also be a huge help in combat encounters. If you're new to Elder Scrolls Online and are wondering how to get these characters to accompany you on your adventures, here's how to get companions in ESO.

How To Unlock All Companions In Elder Scrolls Online

There are currently four companions in ESO.

There are currently four companions in ESO: Mirri Elendis (Dark Elf), Bastian Hallix (Imperial), Ember (Khajit), and Isobel Velois (Breton). Mirri and Bastian were introduced in the Blackwood expansion, whereas Ember and Isobel were introduced in the game's High Isle expansion. 

You can unlock these companions by completing the Companion quests.  

  • You can find Mirri north of Doomvault Vulpinaz in northern Blackwood. Complete the "Shattered and Scattered" quest to unlock them as a companion. 
  • You can find Bastian south of Deepscorn Hollow in Blackwood. Complete the "Competition and Contracts" quest to unlock them as a companion.
  • You can find Isobel outside Castle Navire on the southwest coast of High Isle. Complete the "Tournament of the Heart" quest to unlock them as a companion. 
  • You can find Ember at Draioch north of Gonfalon Bay in High Isle. Complete the "Tower full of Trouble" quest to unlock them as a companion. 

How To Equip A Companion In Elder Scrolls Online

You can equip a companion from the Collections tab.

Once you have unlocked a companion(s), you must equip them before they follow you everywhere. To do so, go to the Collections menu and look for the Allies tab. Here, you will find the Companions section. You can view all the companions you have unlocked so far and equip them. And that's pretty much it!
