DreamHack Summer 2018

DreamHack Summer 2018

Counter-Strike will once again return to Sweden as part of DreamHack Summer, which will take place in Jönköping from June 16-18th, and offer a prize pool of $100,000. Eight top-level CS:GO teams will gather at the Elmia Convention Center to contest the tournament. Invites AGO Esports, Gambit Esports, GODSENT, North, OpTic Gaming, Renegades will be joined by European and North American qualifiers The Imperial and compLexity Gaming.

Fresh starts for both compLexity and Gambit

In what will be only compLexity’s second offline event with their new-look roster – including notable additions Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and Shahzeeb "ShahZaM" Khan – the pressure isn't particularly high for them to perform, as their new roster is widely expected to take a little bit of time to gel. More than anything, this event will be a way to gauge the new lineup's potential. Another team with a recently changed roster is Gambit. Gambit’s latest move sees Denis "seized" Kostin benched for trialist Nikolay "mir" Bityukov, formerly of Vega Squadron. After Top Four finishes at both DreamHack Malmo and more recently DreamHack Marseille, the CIS squad will be hope this change will spur them on to great things.

Brollan and GODSENT’s chance

Ever-improving Swedes Brollan and Godesent have impressed many as of late, both online and offline, with surprise victories against Gambit and AGO at DreamHack Tours and wins against Renegades and Tyloo at StarSeries Season 5 Finals. Brollan has put up impressive numbers recently, with standout individual performances in a number of GODSENT’s wins. Coupled with impressive showings in in 2-1 series losses against Team Liquid, AVANGAR and AGO and individual brilliance in 1-1 splits with fnatic and FaZe, this young man is clearly an integral cog in the GODSENT machine. And if that machine runs like clockwork, GODSENT have the potential to go on a tear.

The format

The eight teams will be divided into two double elimination GSL-style groups with initial and winners matches being BO1 whilst elimination and decider matches are BO3. Two teams will emerge from each of these groups to compete in the single elimination BO3 playoffs. Stay tuned for updates on those groups and the eventual knockout bracket.
