Dreamhack Valencia

Dreamhack Valencia

If paella is your favourite food and esports is your favourite thing to watch, then Dreamhack Valencia could well be the event for you. Taking place in the imposing Feria Valencia venue, this Dreamhack will host tournaments in prominent competitive titles CS:GO and Starcraft 2.

 CS:GO

It'll be a $100,000 prizepool for the Counter Strike in Valencia – not the hugest we've ever seen for the game, but still pretty substantial. The format will be two groups of four in the usual GSL format, with Bo1s for initial and winners' matches, and Bo3 for elimination and decider matches. The outcomes of these groups will decide which teams contest a Bo3 single elimination bracket. Only two teams have been announced so far: Fragsters and Luminosity Gaming. We'll update this page when that situation changes, so make sure to keep checking. Groups and brackets will also be added as we get closer to the event, ready to be updated when the CS:GO action commences. The event will be available to watch on the DreamhackCS Twitch channel – check that out below.

Starcraft 2

Valencia will also host the third of four events in Starcraft 2's official WCS circuit. The prizepool on offer is $101,000 for this one, demonstrating that SC2 esports is very much alive and well (if you're good enough!). The format's a complicated one, with three successive group stages eventually feeding into a 16 player single-elimination bracket. The first two of these are completely open, contested by 64 players who signed up in person at the event. For the third group stage, 16 players from that initial 64 will face off against the 16 that qualified online. This final group stage will generate a top 16 bracket, the pairings for which will be played out as Bo5s, right up until the final where the format will change to Bo7. Told you it was complicated. You can watch the event on the official Starcraft 2 Twitch steam, handily embedded below. And the best way to keep up with the bracket is on the event's Liquipedia page.
