UK eSports Popularity Is "Rocketing"

Good news, UK eSports fans... you're not alone. With the close of the UK-hosted CS:GO ESL Pro League Season 3, the eSports brand has come out bearing grand news, declaring that the rise of eSports in the UK is booming. "The passion and noise that came from our sell-out audiences at Indigo at the O2 and at MCM are a powerful affirmation of what the numbers are showing us," says ESL Managing Director, James Dean, "this is a sector that is rocketing and the UK has become a powerhouse for eSports teams, talent and tournaments." Historically the UK has been a target for many eSports organisations as they look to tap into that huge foundation of gamers - the UK is one of Europe's biggest spenders when it comes to games - and turn them all into eSports fans. It seems that hard work is paying off, then, since more than even before are tuning into eSports matches from the UK. According to ESL, the Season 3 Finals saw a 60% increase in viewers with the peak concurrent number of viewers reaching over 330,000. Dean went on to describe the UK as a "sector whose time has come," adding that "this is going to be a spectacularly exciting twelve months as audiences continue to swell.” Similarly, not so long ago, Riot Games was also attempting to crack the UK as it brought its University Championship to the British Isles. If ESL's data around the growth in eSports is correct, then maybe we'll see Sky Sports taking on an ESPN-style eSports channel sooner rather than later? We can only hope. As for the ESL Pro League Season 3 Finals, well it was NA team Luminosity that finally came out on top after a tense battle against G2 eSports. Going into the Finals at two maps a piece, the fifth map - on Inferno - saw the two teams continually vie for victory, ultimately forcing an exciting overtime round that - beside an outstanding 1v4 clutch win from G2 - Luminosity would end up winning. You should take a look at that 1v4 round by G2 though, it's something special...
