First-Person Mode Coming To Fortnite In Chapter 5, Say Leaks [Updated]

New leaks have emerged that claim first-person mode could finally be coming to Fortnite in Chapter 5.
First-Person Mode Coming To Fortnite In Chapter 5, Say Leaks [Updated]

For the longest time, rumors have been flying around a first-person mode coming to Fortnite. Epc Games' long-running Battle Royale has undergone plenty of changes over its run, including adding in Zero Build: a mode which removes Fortnite's core building mechanic from regular play. If something as intrinsic to Fortnite as building can be altered, then it's no surprise that players are expecting a change to the game's camera perspective.

Update March 21: We updated this article with more information regarding first-person mode coming to Fortnite in Chapter 5. The original article was posted in June 2023.

Fortnite is currently played in a third-person perspective only. Other Battle Royales on the market either offer players the option to switch between third- and first-person, or locks them to first-person (Apex Legends, we're looking at you). But fans have been hoping for a first-person camera to make its way into Fortnite for some time, and rumors and leaks have been emerging for years.

Now, according to a brand new leak, the long anticipated feature could be arriving with the game's next chapter, Fortnite Chapter 5.

Is Fortnite Getting A First-Person Mode?

March 20: Epic Games dev confirms first-person mode is coming to Fortnite

According to one of Fortnite's Senior Producers, Epic Games has been working on first-person mode for some time. The post read, "I’m on first person. We’ve been working on this for quite some time and can’t wait to actually polish it up and get it to y’all. 🖤 please be patient!"

The new leaks regarding Fortnite's supposed first-person mode have emerged via Reddit, thanks to user Additional_Example51. They claim that a first-person perpective will be arriving next chapter, providing a series of links to screenshots in imgur. With Fortnite currently in Chapter 4 (Season 3 at the time of writing), the rumored first-person mode would still be some ways off if the leaks prove to be true.

In the Reddit post, there are four linked screenshots depicting what seems to be the work-in-progress first-person view. The Outfit used is that of Chapter 4 Season 3 addition Lorenzo, and in one screenshot it seems the Outfit's head is obstructing the ADS. The screenshots note that the weapons appear to fire correctly, though there are some issues with reloading animations.

It's worth stressing that there's no telling whether or not these images are legitimate. Epic Games has yet to confirm the addition of first-person mode, or when it's set to be rolled out. Commentors where quick to point out that this isn't the first time leakers have claimed "next season". One user said, "Yeah, this has been a topic on FN, time and time again. First person has been in development for quite some time, leakers have been saying "Next season!" ofc it's not ready till it's ready, but it's been almost 5-6 months since it has been "leaked."
