Garena Free Fire, the ultimate battle royale title, is home to abundant playable characters that possess their strengths and weaknesses. The game features a total of 38 characters at the moment, and each of them boasts a unique ability that players can use to have the upper hand over their enemies on the battlefield. 

While every Free Fire character is well balanced, there are some legends who are relatively overpowered due to their abilities. Therefore, we walked through every Free Fire character and sorted them in order of general effectiveness. By doing this, we’re able to determine the best playable characters available in the game so far.

Five best characters in Free Fire to use right now

Before moving forward, the characters in the game aren’t free to play. Players have to either buy them from the in-game store or unlock them via the top-up events. Hence, make sure to shell out your pockets wisely.

Chrono

Released in December 2020, Chrono is one of the finest characters to use in Free Fire. With one of the most versatile abilities, Chrono boasts an active skill called Time-Turner that creates a force field allowing him to block 600 damage from opponents and shoot at opponents from inside the force field at the same time. 

Moreover, the character's movement speed is increased by 15%, while allies get a 10% boost in movement speed while inside the force field. Players can purchase the Chrono in Free Fire for 599 Diamonds and upgrade it up to level 6.

Upgrades

• Level 1: Within the force field, you can increase 5% in movement speed during 3s activation. CD 200s.

• Level 2:  Within the force field, you can increase 7% in movement speed during 4s activation. CD 192s.

DJ Alok

World’s famous music producer, DJ Alok, boasts an active ability known as Drop the Beat. While his skill is active, the character creates a 5m aura, increasing ally speed by 10% as well as restoring 5 HP/second for a total duration of 5 seconds at the base level. 

However, the ability duration can be increased to 10 seconds at the maximum level as DJ Alok is upgradable up to level 6 and can be purchased in Free Fire for 599 diamonds.

Upgrades

• Level 1: Increase moving and sprinting speed by 10% and restore 5 HP for 5 seconds.

• Level 2: Increase moving and sprinting speed by 11% and restore 5 HP for 6 seconds.

• Level 3:  Increase moving and sprinting speed by 12% and restore 5 HP/s for 7 seconds

• Level 4: Increase moving and sprinting speed by 13% and restore 5 HP/s for 8 seconds

• Level 5: Increase moving and sprinting speed by 14% and restore 5 HP/s for 9 seconds.

Xayne

Xayne is a free-spirited extreme athlete whose active ability is called Xtreme Encounter. At the base level, her skill increases the players’ health by 80 HP for a temporary period. Besides this, she also increases the damage to the gloo walls and shields for at least 10 seconds.

At the maximum level, Xayne’s ability provides 100% increased damage to Gloo Walls and Shields at the cost of 100 seconds cooldown. Just like our previous characters, Xayne can also be acquired for 599 diamonds.

Upgrades

• Level 1: 40% increased damage to Gloo Walls and shields. Cooldown: 150s.

• Level 2: 50% increased damage to Gloo Walls and shields. Cooldown: 140s.

• Level 3:  61% increased damage to Gloo Walls and shields. Cooldown: 130s.

• Level 4: 73% increased damage to Gloo Walls and shields. Cooldown: 120s.

• Level 5: 86% increased damage to Gloo Walls and shields. Cooldown: 110s.

K (Professor)

K or Captain Booyah is a popular Free Fire character based on American musician DJ KSHMR. He offers two different modes, Jiujitsu and Psychology. In the jiu-jitsu mode, K’s allies within a 6m radius get a 500% increase in the EP conversion rate. 

On the other hand, he can automatically recover 2 EP every three seconds, up to a maximum of 100 EP in the psychology mode. K’s abilities also improves as he advances through levels.

Upgrades

• Level 1: Recover 2 EP every 3s, up to 100 EP. Mode switch CD 20s.

D-Bee

D-Bee is one of the characters that has been recently introduced in the game. With the game’s meta constantly evolving, the character’s usage witnessed a massive surge in short space of time. 

At its initial stage, D-Bee’s special survival ability, Bullet Beat increases the bullet accuracy and movement speed by 10% and 5% respectively. However, his skill can only be used while firing the weapon that too when the character is moving.

Upgrades

• Level 1: When firing while moving, movement speed increases by 5%, accuracy increases by 10%

• Level 2: When firing while moving, movement speed increases by 7%, accuracy increases by 13%
