Update: On 23rd January 2022, new geographical information emerged from a recent leak posted to the Genshin Impact Leaks subreddit. According to the leaked information, the Chasm located in Lisha in the Liyue region is relatively close to the central city in Sumeru.
The source explains that it is plausible that Yaoyao could guide Travelers to the Chasm, with them speculating that she may be featured in a future Hangout Event. The Chasm is at the focal point of opening a potential gateway to the Sumeru region.
Finally, the source speculated that Travelers could sail westwards to Sumeru from a waypoint on the left side of Watatsumi Island. By referring to the Genshin Impact interactive map, you will know that the island currently has five Waypoints, with two being more to the left of the island.

The world of Teyvat continues to mystify and excite Travelers on where their next adventure will take them. But, of course, many have always asked where they could go next, with three regions currently available to marvel.
With various leaks pointing to the Dendro Archon nation of Sumeru as the next destination, details on this region have been relatively scarce. However, a recent leak hints when Travelers can expect to explore Sumeru, potentially arriving in August this year.
Leak reveals August release for Sumeru region
Genshin Impact's Sumeru region is the home of the Dendro element, which is reportedly arriving in the 3.0 update. According to a brand-new leak posted to the Genshin Impact Leaks subreddit, the 3.0 update looks to be coming in August 2022.
The rumoured release date for the Sumeru region corroborates reports that miHoYo has planned to release a new region every year.
This rumour further confirms the releases of the Mondstadt and Liyue regions in the 1.0 update, the game's launch on 28th September 2020 and Inazuma in the 2.0 update on 21st July 2021.
Sumeru will be the fourth region introduced to the game, which leaves four more regions: Fontaine, Natlan, Snezhnaya, and Khaenri'ah to be released in the forthcoming years. That gives the game's timeline of five to eight years to explore Teyvat.
Developer miHoYo have previously drawn inspiration from real-world influences for its regions. For example, Germany inspired Mondstadt, while China and Japan were inspirations for Liyue and Inazuma, respectively. However, it appears that Sumeru will be drawing influences from Middle Eastern and South Asian countries and territories, which will inspire the region's mythologies and environments.
What do we know about the Sumeru region?
We have previously reported on this region. For instance, we revealed that Sumeru is known for its expansive desert areas and lush forests. We also know that it is the home of the Dendro Archon, the God of Wisdom, whose primary ability is to draw power for the creation of life.
This is evident from early game renderings leaked last year, which provided some insight on the design of the Sumeru region. Also, Travelers can expect to see plenty of trees, greenery, and flora sprawling throughout the region based on these designs.
Sumeru may be rumoured to introduce Genshin Impact's first Dendro character, Yaoyao, currently in development.
According to previous information leaked by a reliable Genshin source, Lumie, we also have an idea of what the character may look like; however, no details on her Elemental Skill or Burst has been revealed.
With Yaoyao reportedly arriving either before or with the 3.0 update, other leaks suggest two more characters from Sumeru that may join the game.
Based on what we learned from the Genshin Impact manga, Cyno and Collei will be the region's essential characters due to their connections to the Sumeru Academia.
There is still plenty we have yet to decipher about the mysterious Sumeru region, and as such, you should take the information provided with a grain of salt.
We will continue to update the story once new information becomes available.
