After progressing through the main story in Honkai Star Rail, players will eventually be asked to defeat the powerful Ebon deer. This is a tough battle, but if you come out on top, Dan Shu will ask you to meet with her to discuss things. This happens during the Trailblaze Mission "Sinners Misled, Credence Falsified." During your conversation with Dan Shu, she will reveal that she is the leader of Sanctus Medicus and has been working against you this entire time. Players will then be given the option to battle Dan Shu or let her go.

Honkai Star Rail's plot is very linear, meaning that any choices you make will not directly impact the main story. Choices in Honkai Star Rail have a lot more weight than they do in other games, and the player can make life-altering decisions for NPCs. That being said, the main plot will progress as planned, no matter what option you choose. So, here is what happens after choosing each of the potential options during your conversation with Dan Shu.

What Happens If You Battle Dan Shu

If you choose to battle Dan Shu, she will be disappointed and tell you that she believes you two could have been friends under a different set of circumstances. She will then quickly take her leave, leaving the two monsters to take care of you. The player will then have to complete a short battle against five Sanctus Medicus enemies. This battle is not very difficult, but we recommend bringing Physical or Imaginary Element characters to this fight. 

What Happens If You Let Dan Shu Go

If you let Dan Shu go, she will express her happiness but be disappointed that you and she will become enemies in the future. In a few extra lines of dialogue, she goes on to say that she hopes you two won't have to meet again, and she leaves with the rest of her enemies. So, if you let Dan Shu go, you don't actually have to fight her. 

The optimal choice would be to battle Dan Shu, as you get rewards for defeating the enemies. However, if you let Dan Shu go, you can get some extra lines of dialogue, but these can just be read on YouTube.
