Horizon 3 - Release Date Rumors, Sequel News, More

The Forbidden West proved to be a fantastic story arc for Aloy, and as the franchise increases in popularity for both PlayStation and PC, many are already looking toward Horizon 3. Because Forbidden West just released in early 2022, there isn't a lot to go on for the next game in the series.

However, with the obvious success of the post-post-apocalypse games, there is just enough information circulating to start the conversation on Horizon 3. In this article, we'll go over what the sequel could entail and when the next game may release in the future.

Horizon 3 Release Date

So far, there is no concrete release date for the next Horizon game. But that doesn't mean we don't know it's on the way. In an interview with VG247, the Guerrilla Games Creative Director, Mathijs de Jonge, discussed what could be next for Aloy in her adventures.

It has already been confirmed that the breadcrumbs left behind at the end of Forbidden West were no accident and there is yet another story on the way. "And, indeed, this game ends with another big cliffhanger, where we’re setting up some things for the next game once again," he said.

So far, it appears that Horizon 3 will be the culmination of a trilogy that focuses on Aloy as the character. When that next game arrives is all a guess at this point, but past releases have been fairly consistent. Zero Dawn was released in February 2017 and Forbidden West was released in February 2022. The best bet would be February 2026-2027 depending on how development goes.

What Could be the Story in Horizon 3?

Just like Horizon Zero Dawn, Forbidden West left players with an open-ended conclusion. Though the Far Zenith threat was taken down, along with any current experiments, there is more to be done. Aloy and her companions are spreading the word of what happened to prepare the tribes for what's to come, such as the failed Nemesis AI experiment.

We find out that Far Zenith and Nemesis are what causes the events of the first game, and now Nemesis may be on the way to wipe out what's left of Gaia and the current Earth.

In Horizon 3, Aloy will likely have her largest battle yet with the most dangerous machines. If Nemesis has the intent of wiping out Earth, then the third game truly is the life-or-death attack that Aloy has prepared for.

Before then, we could get some new DLC that brings Aloy to the Burning Shores in the south, but that remains to be seen.
